My Satellite Setup
80cm fixed dish on Hotbird and a Humax HDCI-5000... thats it ^^ im newbie

Hi all. I'm new here and I'm also kinda new to digital satellite installations.
I used to work with VSAT and picked up some experience in satellite installation there.

Getting to the point. I said I would do my friend a favour since he lives in the middle of nowhere and wants a satellite system put in.
He's after freesat in 4 rooms (Spare bedroom, His bedroom, Front lounge and back lounge)
Which is pretty easy. Now he has decided he wants PVR's in the spare bedroom and both lounges, as-well as spanish channels in the front lounge.

I had a look round and... by the looks of things. This setup would be best:

A Triax TD 64cm dish
Triax TD multiblock holder
Universal octo LNB for the freesat
Unviversal single LNB for the spanish tv

Now, I'm a little confused as to the rest of the setup that I would need

for example:

Would the dish be big enough, I opted for that size due to it being a grade 2 listed and it is replacing and old sky dish and the local authorities are a pain in the backside.

I have noticed there are spanish channels on both Astra and Hot Bird. which would you guys recomend for FTA spanish?

In the front lounge is there a way to have a PVR which can record the Freesat and using some kind of selector switch to switch between the Freesat and Spanish FTA? (even though it won't be able to record the spanish)

This doesn't look like an easy job now and my friend has offer to give me a little somethin for me doing this. whats a reasonable amount for me to ask from him for doing this?

Any other help would be grand too. :-worship

Hi, check Flysat.com for which satellite is best for FTA Spanish, the last time I checked it was Hispsat at 30W, then Astra 19E, then Hotbird 13E.

Yes, I think you should be OK with a TD 64 for 19E and 28E, though I have never used one that small.

To switch between satellites you would use a Diseqc switch. Don't understand why you are saying that you can't record the Spanish, of course you can.

Oh nice, I've not heard much bout those before. I presume ill need to run two cables for each of the satellites.

Another question I have regarding the two satellites is: which reciever would you recomend and regarding the channel list would I just need to scan once on one satellite swich over and repeat for the other? (No special reciever functions like a motorised set up?)

Cheers for the advice so far. Much appreciated.

Since you are mainly just watching 28E, Freesat receivers may be your best bet. The Humax HDR is a twin tuner recorder, and will switch a diseqc switch for watching from the other satellite.

O.K cheers for the help Robbo. Think I'm all sorted now.
you're a star :-worship
