I am under the impression that the term 'image' as used in the context of Dreambox is more like the visual representation; the user interface. The functionality is present in the Linux firmware; the various images sits on top of that and attempts to present a more likable user interface and additing functionality and features, like providing for having several and different images to chose between; that's the multiboot. I have been running Nabilo Darkstar in multiboot for many years but I could just as well have stayed with just that one image if flash. Mutiboot is however great if you want to experiment with several images. You can have one that works, and other you want to tinker with. Softcams are one feature I believe are not possible in the native Dreambox. I can recommend the Peter Pan image if you are experimentally inclined. It is rock stable and all you need is included in the package, from softcams to Barry Allen. With PP in place, you have a solid, reliable foundation and can BarryAllen as much as you like besides. Although since going from DM 7020 to DM 8000 I haven't seen any need for multiboot. I believe that's because Nabilo no longer is supported; I tried Black Hole at first but haven't bothered to use multiboot and test it there. Using BH in flash was not compatible with multiboot. I didn't find BH quite as attractive as Darkstar though, but still much to my liking.
