My first toroidal 90 multi dish install with 20 lnbs

On the T90 being in the centre doesn't really matter. As long as you are within 20º of the centre the dish performs pretty much the same as dead centre. It's only when you get outside this range and the LNB is starting to look at the secondary reflector side-on that the dish performance really drops off.

No such trouble here. She calls them mushrooms ("I see another couple of mushrooms have popped-up in the garden"). I put up my 1.8m dish while she was out shopping (http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/...190376-heavy-duty-groundstand-base-hurry.html). My main critic is the mother-in-law. A couple of weeks ago we were having a BBQ and she was telling everyone I must be involved with finding secrets for Wikileaks, but no one found it funny so she shut up in the end.

If 19 is your central LNB 45ºE (at 26º off centre) might be just about do-able with the modified guide bar if you're lucky. Going the other way you can forget anything past 5ºW, at least for the time being. You can try for 26ºE but I think you will be wasting your time. Everyone says at least a 1 metre dish is needed even for powerful signals from Badr4. That leaves you 45.0E, 42.0E, 39.0E, 36.0E, 28E, 23.5E, 19E, 16E, 13E, 10/9E, 7E, 4.8E, 0.8W, 4/5W, 14 satellites in total. That's 2 spare ports on the switch. You could set up a motorised dish on one of them to deal with the bits of the arc not covered by the T90, or where it is too small for good reception.

Not that the scale goes to 30 of course. When I had my T90 set up facing due South (0º central) I could pick up 30ºW which is a 54dB satellite (45cm dish). This is so far out of the guide bar though that I wouldn't bother except for a really powerful satellite that can be received on a mini dish.

Yes Heuvos, perhaps I should qualify what I said about 26°E. In clear weather I can get most of the TP's from Badr4, certainly the one carrying MBC......but I should point out how much further south of the OP I am and the fact that 26° is at centre. It is on a Triax TD88, however I think there's only an outside chance of Godzillafan picking up anything. It might be worth him trying an LNB on it's own in the centre and seeing what's possible, obviously if it's no go, he'd be wasting his time trying to pick up a signal off centre.

His neighbours have already expressed concerns about the dish that's going up, I can't see an additional motorised set up going down well.......not to mention what his wife would think of the idea. Ahhh, how much easier this hobby is when you're single!!!

Thanks guys

if its 14 that's a start, the rest will have to be on try and error basis. So should i try to get 26e on 0 first and go from there instead of 19 or 23.5?

I still have the original sky dish which can be seen on the next door wall (same size as that) not sure that will be good enough for far west. But let stick to the max amount on the bar.

0 I am going for either 19,23.5,26?

Will know this week once I get the dish lowered, just need to find some 3" u bolts to fit the 12"tk - not sure if a 2.5" u bolt will do the job

tk i can pick up on monday from a local warehouse which does electrical gear.

I am not sure, bus seems that in UK 33*E is also receivable (at least some transponders), so that means 15 LNBs, and why no to try 26*E anyway and that is LNB #16. And 16 that is T90 maximum number according to documentation.
Once I tried to make T90 performance graph, of course it is very approximate, but overall shape of that "umbrella" is about true.

19ºE, unless you want to start losing your western satellites.

Thanks guysI think I shall stick to the 19 and what happens. There is only one way to find out. Still raining here will be another day or two to get up there. Spending the next few days going over all the advice and puck up all the equipment, but a 3" u bolt is taking time to locate. But nearly there getting

Try an Exhaust Centre ............... bound to have something suitable.

Cheers for that, will check local garage tomorrow.

Picked up 2x 60mm u-bolts from local auto shop for 3 bucks, chearper than the ebay price.

fitted on the 60mm onto the original bar and it fitted like a glove. Just need to find where the hacksaw is to chop it in half.

I have 4x M6 coach bolts at 50mm - but upgrading tomorrow to M8 as I think they will be fine either 80-100mm.

TK 12" picking up tomorrow from another electrical place.

So should be back out there in the next day or so.

Also Xtrend 5000 is turning up wednesday 234 delivered from sponsor

Oooh. Excellent progress.

Keep the reports coming..........................

Hi Guys
Just a quickie for the diseqc - I had a thought

If I get 2 of these 10/1 swtiches (20 in total) and then stick them into a emp 4/1 - will that work and give me over 20 slots???

Grateful for your views -as I might go for these today instead of the 16/1 which was in my basket to order (last min change).

Yes / No will do

That will give you 22 slots.

Guess I am sold on these, I am going to pick up these instead. I guess it will future proof things

Only one thing you should take in account: 1/10 disegcs needed to be programmed in Modus5. Some shops sell them already pre-programmed, or you will need to look for programming device or friend nearby who has this device.

I shall check with friend if they are pre programmed for Modus 5

this is what is on the sales site - if this helps to confirm situation with the 10/1 box

Die 6 verschiedenen DiSEqC-Modi:

  • Modus 1: normales DiSEqC 1.0 oder 2.0 (ABCD), max. 4 LNB
  • Modus 2: normales DiSEqC 1.1 oder 2.1, max. 10 LNB
  • Modus 3: DiSEqC 1.0 oder 2.0 + Toneburst A/B, max. 6 LNB
  • Modus 4: Benutzer definiertes DiSEqC, bis zu 10 LNB
  • Modus 5: DiSEqC 1.1 oder 2.1 uncommitted, bis zu 10 LNB
  • Modus 6: DiSEqC 1.2 oder 2.2, bis zu 10 LNB
  • Modus 7: Modus 5+Modus 6

Does these mean they are preprog/m done already??

cheers

Why don't you just buy a 16:1 switch as you were going to. When you want to expand just add a few common'o'garden DiSEqC switches.

Hi H

I thought of that, but after viewing the no. of sats that are possible from the setup - I was pushing around the 14-15 figure. Ant extras I got would be around the fringes at the ends of ther bars. I thought if I would be realistic thats about all I would get - so if I just got the 2 x 10s that would be the 20 and that will be that.

I know I wont be allowed to stick any more dishes around the garden - even if I hid one - I would still be using the inputs from the 20/1 as I wont be using them all from the wave. I have a feeling that I might get about 16 if I pushed really hard. I would have 4 spare slots already setup in the 2 boxes.

And I can feed these into a emp 4/1.

and still have 2 slots on that as well.

thats my thinking.

just need to find out about this modus 5

I liked the emp 16/1 alot - but this 10/1 seems to also do the job.

just how good these models actually are.

Xtrend will be with me tomorrow and will write a report for you.

Six of one, half a dozen of the other:

2 x 10/1 (uncommitted) + 1 x 4/1 (committed) = 22 LNBs

1 x 16/1 (uncommitted) + 2 x 4/1 (committed) = 22 LNBs

The main difference with the 16/1 is you can keep expanding just by buying more cheapo switches.

I know, really undecided on this one, I have a strong feeling that I wont be allowed past the 22 lnbs. I had originally planned 24, but after loads of inmput, we knew that will be pushing it, unless I dotted dishes around the back. That for me is banned since I got the biggest one I could get originally.

If I stick to the plan, which is 16 (give or take) and that will leave me with 6 extra slots to experiment with, so on the same dish I will be lucky to get that as I am not allowed more dishes.

The emp would have been great to go further, but wife says no more dshes - happy with the one.

If you wont be allowed more than 22 birds, than 1x1/16 plus 2x1/4 would be more flexible solution, and cheaper as well. I went 1/10 way because at that time there where no 1/16 available on the market. If I start today everything from "0" than I would probably also go 1/16 plus 1/4.
BTW, went little shopping today and purchased 80cm antenna for EUR 9,25, some SHARP LNBs for EUR 3,70, and 1/4 diseqc for 92 cents (so for a price of glass of beer in Den Helder it is possible to buy almost 6 diseqcs).

Cheers H

Being offered 10/1 for about 13.9 euro each, so can pick up 2 of them and the emp 4/1 for about 30 odd euros - which is 25-30£ cheaper than getting the 16/1 and 4/1 - could do with the saving as just added the xtrend to the set for 234.

your 80cm setup is a bargain - how did you manage that!

still not brought the 10/1 yet as wanted to get another view o two about setting up that way before I purchase
