My first toroidal 90 multi dish install with 20 lnbs

That means you are not correctly aligned on 19ºE to start with. Also don't forget when you skew the dish you have to skew the LNB in the opposite direction to compensate.

Leave the dish at 105 and get 19ºE nailed. Everything else should just drop into place.

basically its almost as I went back to square 1

the 19 had to move a inch to the right but 28 was about spot on after I got it to 95.

So from the 95 (which I have it now) I need to move the dish to 105

and then get 19 back to 0 mark but also sew the lnb a little.

once I have that, then 28 and others should folllow

ok will give that a try for another hour

update - about another 15mins later

the 19 is on 3/4 marks on the bar to the west from 0

28 just tuned in at around 85/71 figures - after counting 9 marks on the bar.

so 19 seemed to be fixed on 3/4 numbers on the W section of the bar.

I an going to try 0.8W now

cheers

I'm guessing you are somewhere near Lugo.

You need the dish skewed around 105º on the scale and centred on 11.5ºE (imaginary). If you put 2 LNBs side by side right in the centre one will be on Hotbird (13ºE) and the other on Eutelsat W2A (10ºE). Then pop your other LNBs on and fine tune it.

Hi H

This is what I got after my 2nd attempt I got the 19

and here the figures

19 is on the bar at 3/4 to the west section.

So 19 is not on 0 anymore but on 3/4 on the bar.

is this correct or am I totally out with the 105????

I am now going to try to get 28 and see where that ends up to work out whats happening on the bar and give everyone an idea or any fixes

cheers

HI Guys - update sat morning 9.15am

Right - this is what happened

After moving to 105 approx I managed to get 19 on bar number 3/4 left side bar (looking at the dish head on)

I then tried to move the already set 28 to get a signal - which I did in the end.

I then checked to see where 16 and 13 appeared and this is what I got

0 - there is nothing there

moving left looking head on

19 came at 2
16 came in at 5
13 came in at 8

moving right

28 came in at 7

These are all approx figures and the singals are all between 80 - 75/65 strength etc.

Its not bad I think, but if there is a way to get the 19 a bit more to the 0 - How would it be possible - moving the dish more west????

Just trying to check if its worth fine tunning a little more or I will lose some West sats I think

cheers guys

That's no good because the skew figure is based on 19ºE being at the centre. If you change the centre you have to change the skew or nothing will line up.

H

not sure what to do as i got to 105 but the 19 only seems to tune in at around two

not sure why that is

but 28, 16 and 13 tune in roughly to the plan based on 19 being at 2.

if i leave the screw alone

can i move the dish left/right by a few mms (like i did the first time, by 6mms odd)?

cheers

If your 19E worked when you had the dish level but moved along the bar when you skewed the dish, the only explanation I can think of is the pole has not been erected straight. Anyway leave the skew at 105º, put the 19E LNB back in the centre and get it aligned on 19E. Then worry about the othe LNBs. But if your pole is not straight these figures are all pretty meaningless.

its had be baffled for a while, I can't figure whats going on.

Bascially 19E was on 0 and its worked (after we did tohose last mins 6mms moves)
28E fitted while level when 19 was on 0 and both worked well.

Things changed a little when we skw the dish - at first on 105 we got nothing on 0 (19)
then
I moved backwards to see when it did work and that was on 95ish 0/19.

Had to nail 105 so I did on 105 - I fixed the dish - I played with the lnb for 19E and it stopped on about mark 2 on the bar and not the 0.

So I was two out, but seem to follow the line perfectly

28, 16 and 13 all slotted onto the bar on its numbers as I was counted away from 19.

so to the left side 28 was on mark 7
and on the right side 16 on mark 5, 13 onmark 8.

I know we are two out and its got to be something.

The pole - when we put that up, I used the level to make sure it was level. The only thing I can think of, is it was level when fixed, but when the dish was put on, the weight and tight/fixing of that maybe moved the pole by a mms as it took the wt and strain.

Ok maybe a few mms out - sure fine tuning should kick in

I am thinking

back a few stages.

First I had 19 on 0 and was trying to put 28 on and we moved the dish left by 6mms so both lined up - we put a pencil mark on the pole and moved the dish. After this 19 and 28 worked.

How about I moved that back to orginal position original pencil line so moving it by 6mms to the right this time - would that not mean that 19 will therefore need to move from 2 towards the 0 and 28 and the other will need to move aswell in line with the 6mms.

Do you thing that 6mms stage might of changed things a bit

seems the lnbs are picking up signals after the skw move - so skw could be about right, but just out on the bar

any thoughts on the 6mms?

nearly there

worst case - I lose some W sats - well everything after 1W - unless i get anything from the overhanging bar at the edge of the dish and on the opposite side the E I am adding a few degrees.

Do I move 6mms first or try seeing how close I can get to 0 with 19 and see what happens

Surely you'd be better off returning the Astra 19.2 LNB to its original central position, setting the skew on the dish, then realigning on Astra 19.2, if you skew an offset dish after finding the satellite, you will move the alignment away from the required satellite.

When you skew a T90 the central LNB says aligned on the same point, just the same as it would if you could skew a PF dish. The only thing that changes at the central LNB when you change the dish skew is the LNB skew changes. But I agree with what you are saying. Leave the skew at 105º (which is correct for 19ºE being at the centre at his location), move the 19ºE LNB to the centre and nail the satellite, and then move all the other LNBs into position.

Godzillerfan, the other thing you are doing wrong is not using the original holders at this setup stage (as Hakon explained). If you don't uses the original holders you will never get the dish on the focal point vertically.

OK thanks Huevos, can't quite understand the mechanics of that, but as you have one of them, it's obviously the case.:)

This is what I am trying to work out where we are going wrong.

bascially retracing the steps and with the help with the guys we did this

had 0 tuned in with 19E

we then moved the skw to 105 approx and we lost 19E - tuned it in again and worked out that 19E had moved to 2 (right side) approx.

I can go back up and really fine tune it and maybe get to 1ish......but just looked up the original figures and noticed this

on satlexx.... I put in the lon/lat and 42 as E and 0.8 as W to work out what should have as central 0 and got this

20.6E as central base everything on

WaveFrontier tilt angle (Skew): 105.1°
Make skew adjustment by tilting the antenna 15.1° to East which is exactly 105.1° on the scale!!!
(seen from behind the antenna)

Does this mean that we are actually nearly spot on?

28 as -7.9
19 shows as R1.3
16 as 4.4
13 as 7.7

This compared to my figures I had on the bar - seems like they are spot on give or take a few mms

If this is the case how can I fine tune the bar giving that the 105 figure seems spot?

the other option is if i put the 19 on 0 how do i find the skw

or fine tune as much as possible and then I will be based on 20.6 as 0

sun is coming out and thinking maybe another hour later today - any votes on route to take

H

Could this mean, taking into account all the figures from satlexxx, not using the real holders and using our own bar - the figures of 20.6 from salxx would have been the best fit.

But by using own bar and give or take a few mms movement on the pole after putting the dish on - the 19E has moved to the 1/2 position.

I debating this becasue - it seems that all the other sats are slowing slotting into place close to the satlexx setting set with my long/lat position.

I hope this makes sense.

Therefore no matter what I will do, I will get close to 0 on the bar with 19 and never spot on.

If I cut my losses will this mean that I will lose anything after 1W?

I am thinkiing another bash on the sat and try to get 19 as close as I can to 0 and take it from there

The reason I told you to have 19.2ºE in the centre is because it is a real satellite. Lining up on an imaginary satellite (20.6ºE) with no previous experience, no digital leveling equipment, and no signal meter, is not something I'd wish on my worst enemy.

Use these figures:

  • User latitude: 51.6ºN
  • User longitude: -3.2ºE
  • East satellite: user defined 43.4ºE
  • West satellite: 5ºW

That gives 19.2ºE as central and skew as 104º. The reason I said 105º skew is because the skew scale is in 5º steps and if you set it to 105º that will be close enough for you to get the skew perfect by fine adjustment based on signal strength.

rolfw said:

The skew adjustment is at right angles to the satellite (see picture below) so however you skew the dish it remains pointing at the same point in the sky. It's a bit like rotating the wheel of a car, even though the wheel turns the axle remains pointing in the same direction.

I must give Huevos credits for his patience in this thread, and his well and good explanations.
He so correct with the skew function on this type of dish and the comparsion with the wheel.

The main adjustment for a beginner of the first three sat is maximum a one hour job with the original plastic holders.
Its good to learn how the T-90 dish works BEFORE you modified it.

Man,

You ARE THE GUYS

Thanks for the revised figures those are going to help me alot. I did not get a chance to finish what I was doing yesterday as family turned up, I even had them up on the ladder!

We went back to basics - we started again.

This time back quite a few steps and went back to the original dish pointing direction and tuned in 28 at 0 (so we could watch tv).

So I am scrapping all the figures I had originally and starting with new figures, but will restart by checking the fixings first.

The new figures will be the ones provided by Hueovs and will hopefully nail and tune every lnbs in.

First attempt got me 28,19,16,13 and 9

Its been raining all night and today forecast its the same so got wait a few days before the next attempt.

Going to recheck all the lnbs before then aswell

cheers guys - can't of got anywhere without your help

hi Guys,

I also have a T90, I tested it last Saturday. I managed to get 42E within an hour :-worship
My project is to get 13E, 19E, 28E and 42E.
I also have a terrestrial antenne.
Inside I have 8 sockets (TV, SAT, FM outlets) I won't have 8 TV at the same time but at least 2 maybe 3 max.
I'd like to know what other equipment I need ie: multiswitch? switch?
Thanks a lot in advance for your advice.

Cheers,

B.

2Bakanach!
If you are only looking for 13E, 19E, 28E and 42E and max 3 receivers than you should change LNBs from single to Quad and get 3 Diseqc 1/4. For terrestrial reception it is better to have separate cable from antenna to terrestrial receiver. And FM radio is good for car not for apartment or house.
