The bolt I have is correct, but there's no bearing there. With the bearing in, how tight do they have to be? As tight as possible and get the bearing to take care of movement, or slightly loose?

hi - right at this moment i cant think of anywhere you could obtain these - but i will post here- if any ideas turn up --
i have some garage mechanic friends who may know , or suggest an alternative method .

on my mount i just tighten up carefully until there is no play anywhere, and the steel insert is just gently nipped .

If you bought the dish from eBay as a motorised system, it should have the bearings.
 
It was from eBay but it was advertised as nothing more than a "large satellite dish". I was happy to just get the dish for 35 quid, the stand and the polar mount were a bonus when I came to pick it up!

ok -
removed the top one on mine this afternoon -- a good excuse to clean and re oil it -- l.o.l.

measurements ------

Flange Dia: 22mm - Flange Width: 03mm - Inside Dia: 12.5 mm - Outside Dia: 15.5 mm - Total Length: 9.5 mm

insert - --- outer 12.5 - inner 8.0 - length 10.0 mm

bolt - 7.5 mm x 40.0 mm --with nylox type locknut

cant see exactly that one on the bearing-boys page though -- or any inserts -- good luck --

Have a look at World of Sat. They do the Al**t Gbox which is really a Clarke-Tech Gbox in disguise. These have twice the resolution of the Technomate and cost 25 quid at the minute.

Also 12" actuator suggested is not going to be anywhere near long enough (unless you just want to cover a little bit in the centre of the arc). 18" should cover most of the arc. I am using a 24" actuator on my dish and it takes about 20" of travel to go from 57E to 58W.

My arc range will be about 10E to 45W-ish. Will 12" suffice for or better spend some more for the real thing?

my superjack vbox 2 positioner has worked ok for ages but its getting on abit the psu has a high pitched noise which is doing my head in and was looking at that for a replacement.
 
Can anyone confirm that I only need 2 bearings, i.e. top and bottom? Will a jack arm come with its own?

Also, can someone post the length of the arm that the jack is supposed to attach to?

Yeh it does, have the sat names that you can display.

I finally got around to installing my CM dish yesterday and setting up my Gbox that has been sat around for about 8 months (shame I paid £40 for it back then), at £25 it's a bargain.

only 2 bearings required, the jack comes with its own bearings i would go for the 18 inch version to give more arc movement and i would think its going to be stronger than 12 inch.the jack arm bar is 6mm x 40 m x 440.

12" will piss it mate mines 12" well what it said on box i cover from 28e to 30w cant go past 28e cause fence on east side of dish

Well sort of. There are 60 preset names and many of them are Asian and American satellites. Then there are about 30 slots that the user can name. Best thing about the Gbox is the resolution.

Not much in C-band on that bit of the arc on a 1.2m dish.

Just trying to be realistic. A 1.2m dish in C-band gives equivalent performance to a 40cm dish in Ku-band. Aceb's thread gives a good idea what you can achieve with a 1.2m dish.
 
Welp, managed to get the flanged bearing from Rota Precision but it's just a teeny tad too small. It's 15mm as opposed to 15.5mm so there's a very slight play... Hopefully it won't affect the travel too much. Still need to find the insert - found a tube (eBay 390357318682), which cut down to size, should do the job nicely.

Also, took apart, cleaned and sprayed the mount in black. At least it will look good if nothing else!
