My Setup...

A Comag sl65 receiver and a Mvision st5.

Technomate 2200 Motor.

A motorised zone 2 sky dish which I can pick up 45e-30w. Some satellite show weak signals so I have purchased a Fortec 100cm dish which is coming soon. Might keep the zone 2 dish on the chimney and mount the Fortec dish on the side of the house.

The dangly bits on the dish is some rope that I tied around the chimney just to give me peace and mind that it will not fall though the skylight window if something goes wrong ;-)

Sounds like your have a nice set up there when finished :)

Installing the 100cm dish on the side of the house is a wise decision. Surprised you still have the dish & motor what with it being so high up and without correct fixings to the chimney. Even though it's a bungalow, should really be fixed to the chimney using a lashing strap and bracket.

I've always had good results with zone 2 dishes too :)
 
Big and Little brother together ;-)

Moved the dish to the side of the house after some strong winds made me a bit nervous. On the plus side the dish can be tweaked more easily and now I can pick up some transponders from 53e. Still waiting for my 100cm dish :-(

if your getting a 1metre dish that wall mount you have used at the moment wont be strong enough to hold a motor and 1metre dish
 
Agreed Wod. I have my Triax and motor on an 'L' mount and I know it isn't up to the job. Hence my intention to go with T&K's soon.

Cocker, I notice in the photograph your mount seems to be pointing down towards the ground slightly. Mine does the same by about 4 or 5°.

I've adjusted the motor elevation to compensate so that I can achieve a reasonable arc. Did you alter yours as well? Because if not, I don't see how you would get sats at the lower end of the arc.

Wod, I am getting a Fortec dish that comes with a wall mount so will be replacing the "L" bracket with that.

Sonnetpete, I pulled the "L" bracket to the right a bit so it not quite vertical and then altered the elevation. I now can pick up from 53e-45w, but not all the transponders.

Ah ok, that explains something, you must have it on the eastern side side of the arc pretty well spot on. It's just I have a few problems with the motor/dish being too heavy for the mount and bending it slightly. Guess we will both benefit from T&K's!!

My Fortec got lost somewhere in the post, don’t know how something that big gets lost :mad: However got a 100cm Global Orbit dish instead. Now I can get 57E - 58W, If I try and go past 60E my receiver "says out of range". I can pick up some transponders on 7w but only at night and they seem to disappear during the day. The dish is currently picking up from 26e.

The bracket is just a bodge job, but does the job well (I will soon see next time we get a windy day). I need a bracket the cranks out about 50cm so the dish can rotate without hitting the side of the house. If I get some T & K brackets can I use a cranked pole? Any suggesting are welcome.

No need for a cranked pole. 24 inch T&Ks should be sufficent, these will easily bring the dish out to 50cm.

USALS won't allow past a physical 60degs E or W.
 
After tweaking my dish today I realised the chess 0.1db LNB wasn't up too much so decided to have an experiment. I have only got an Inverto 0.2db monoblock to hand so just did a quick swap out and WOW what a difference! Now some of 7w transponders are booming in, 11862.00V was around 40%-45% now 67%-71% with no picture break up.

The only problem when moving the dish the monoblock switches as well. I have just order an Inverto Black Ultra LNB from Germany which hopefully should be here for next weekend.
I'll post some more results.
 
yes its best to try a few lnbs to get the best match for the dish
 
Amazed that you pick up 53e with a minidish :eek:

57e-58w on your 1m is a good feat!

I pick up 40e-30w only because of trees, houses and other crap.

If I had my way it would all be bulldozed down ;):p

Wide beam well possible with an EIRP of 48dBw although I'm sure... a marginal signal with a minidish.
 
The mini dish picked up 53e the same channels the 1m dish did, I cannot remember what the signal quality was like but the picture did not break up. I did a rescan using the 1m dish and I am not receiving any extra channels.
When my new LNB comes my next challenge is to see if I can get anything of 68.5°E ;)

:eek: Would be amazing if you could.. but unless you have an amazing vantage point and a much bigger dish (I would have thought 2m min??) I would very much doubt this...

USALS will also bugger up at anything past 60e so you'll have to take it manually too!

Edit: Do prove me wrong though.. I'd love to see some screengrabs :D:)

Been looking at _http://en.kingofsat.net/beams.php?s=42&b=77, my be possible fingers crossed.
 
I just took delivery of my Inverto Black Ultra LNB and all I can say is WOW! It is a great piece of kit. I lost 11862.00V on 7w due to rain fade, but now i get around 63% signal quality. When the weather perks up I will do some comparison with the LNB I’ve got.
