My system finally!

Just to clarify - I did offer this as my first question to the o/p but it was politely declined, including drilling a neat hole through the wall as opposed to shutting it through the window frame.
Tha cable also has a couple of joins on its way back to the room (nothing to do with me - just to clarify)

well that sounds like the cause of the problem with the receiver, a crushed cable in the window wont help matters

You guys are just awesome!!

Channel Hopper and Robbo you were right... it was the cable! (being shut in the window was fine - but as soon as i moved the tv and box outside (at midnight) - neighbours must have thought I was mad.. and hooked it up to the dish closest I could get (before the join in the cables).. it worked perfectly!!!

I would never ever have thought of that in a million years..!!

My 30 meters of new cable get delivered on Tuesday - so after I've borrowed a step ladder - should be ready to ROCK AND ROLL!

Yes you are mad:-rofl2

I have been outside at 1 am in the dark on more than few occasions messing about with my system, including setting up a complete motorised system to re-site it.

Glad you were saved some grief with the cable, I often come accross botched DIY install jobs, but I always keep a 20m made up length of wf100 handy to whop in, saves messing about trying to work out what is wrong with the existing cables. I went to one, and every connector fell-off the cable when I touched it.

Halleluja..

It works :)

I like that cabling - looks neater than some of my botched efforts (my dishes only may I add!) Most of my lnb f-conns arent waterproofed and the cable runs have worked fine for years :D At some point the whole dish farm will be pulled apart and the cabling redone much neater

The only thing I would add dvmedia is when cabling try not to allow it to hang loose - (4th pic along the top of the fence panel) It will blow in the wind and its likely to snap the inner conductor in time as it flexes.

Thanks Analoguesat :) I need to go and buy a pack of cable ties :D

Attached are pictures of the shack/geek pit under construction (I need to add another 15 inch monitoring screen, a Windows PC with a Skystar Card, and another receiver for my fixed 13e dish (for news channel monitoring).

It's all fully interswitchable - the Technomate output and Pace MSS500 output are mixed into a RF distribution unit, and it can be switched to an AV channel of the Plasma (or to an analogue PC TV card for when I have a windows PC, OR the other 15 inch tv (when i get it!!)

Equipment: Technomate 5600 CI, Pace MSS500, Daewoo VCR, Maplin A/V Source Selector, RF Distribution Unit, RF Remodulator, Alba 15 inch LCD TV, Samsung 42 inch Plasma, HDMI DVD Player, Scientific Atlanta C A B L E box, iMac (Intel), Samsung Printer, Tesco remote controlled power switching unit, generic PC TV Card

WANT: Skystar Card, Windows PC, A box capable of 4:2:2 feeds, Dreambox/Nokia 9800s?
