We've been steady with Goldies on the feeder, should increase a little once they start fledging.

I go metal detecting, and I am friends with a few farmers due to this hobby, farmers do get paid to try and get declined species back to normal + levels,

Most of my farming friends do love wildlife and go that extra mile to help with this, even though they do shoot themselves, they realise the importance of our nature.

The areas where I do detect, tree sparrows and yellow hammers were in a big decline a short while back, they are thriving now, great stuff, not only birds, insects etc are included, with farmers planting wild flowers etc.

I have seen bad farmers on the tv, killing birds of prey, but I have a good bunch of farmers and always like a chat about there intentions to get things back on track.

Yes it all started with the potato famine, they only use spud guns so not much harm done

Farmers aren't normally the problem with birds of prey, it's the so called sporting estates, an example is that in Southern England, A Red Kite re-introduction programme has been massively successful, but in Scotland, even though the programme was started at the same time, poisoning and shooting of the magnificent birds has meant that the population, in Scotland is only about 10% of the Southern population.

I do have permission on one big estate Rolf, no shooting of game is allowed here, its all hawking, as much as I love my wildlife, I have found it interesting to watch, and the prey has a better chance of escape.

I have no chance of getting permission to detect on the shooting estates, probably due to what you say, I do shoot myself tbh (stop it you comics lol) (legal power air rifle), but only rabbits that I will eat and I will never take more than we need,

The Wakefield project with red kites , just up the road from me, was doing very well the last time I checked, some peeps even had model planes keeping tabs on them.

I'm still in awe of the Red Kites, see them every day, sometimes in double figures in the sky at the same time. Would be a lesser place without them.

Kites tend to be much lower in the sky than Buzzards, if the birds you see are really high, then they are probably Buzzards.

We were lucky enough to have a Red Kite fly right across our Hire Car bonnet whilst approaching a near-deserted mountain village in Northern Catalunya a few years ago.

Truly magnificent - and awesome.

Glad it missed, though ....................... I bet Hertz have heard some tales!

I am sure they was kites rolf , the wing tips give them away. i only have a cheap camera atm and cheap binoculars, but when the kites have been present its all been my eyes,

I have seen 3 buzzards this morning on my way to a car boot, two days ago I saw a sparrow hawk nail a magpie . I hate magpies, they have lots to answer to for the song birds imho.

I agree. We get six or seven of them here.Plus a load of pigeons. My next door nieghbour feeds them.I have bars on my Bird House to keep them out otherwise they just sit there and eat everything.

Hi, I have just witnessed a blue tit giving my 1.2 dish a spring clean, taking the insects from the rear of the dish, he was moving from ledge to ledge taking what he could find,

I never considered a satellite dish as a food source for birds/a home for insects etc, it just goes to show what our hobby is also doing for wild life in a small way . I was slow getting my camera and only managed this one shot as he was on his way after his spring cleaning .

Yes I have seen the spiders G , but the little insects that the blue tit was removing you just never notice them, I will be fitting a camera to one of my dishes in the next few months for monitoring the wildlife and the weather conditions when dxing, I am fed up of getting up and down to look at both,

Well I managed to sort my bird feeders out today, some was broke from the strong winds, so I went and replaced three of them,

The first visitor was the pigeon, trying all angles to get a few lose sunflower hearts.
