Hey Guys, im new and in deseperate need for help. I stay in a building where Satellite Dishes are not allowed to be installed and all TV packages are via the telephone lines. The phone socket wire is connected to a decoder provided by a network provider which is a Motorola device which connect the TV and the internet. I need to find a way to around the expensive packages offered by the sole network provider in Dubai. I am looking at some flat panel satellite dishes which can give me access to Nilesat and Arabsat.

Does anyone know if these Flat Panel Satellite Antennas are any good? Is there any other way around this?

Please help.
 
Fiorst question you need to answer is which direction does your flat face?? You need access to a southish facing balcony to have any chance whatsoever.
 
If you don't have the "good direction" as Analoguesat mentioned, try to make a deal with a next door neighbor who has, and get a cable across from his flat to yours.
How many flats do you have in your floor? Would be best if there are only two.
 
Hey Analoguesat, unfortunately I dont have a balcony in my flat and only large pane windows. The windows direction open to the south east.

Someone advice to get a Flat Panel Satellite Dish/Antenna which can be installed in the house and can pick up Nile Sat and Arabsat signals. But i am not sure if that is totally possible and if the signal will be strong enough?

You are lucky with the directions.
Can you have a normal dish INSIDE your flat or not?
If you are not allowed, then even a flat panel dish may get you into trouble.
There are reports that a normal dish can receive satellites though glass windows. Would depend on the glass thickness.
With a flat panel dish, it might be rather difficult.
What is the size of the flat panel dish that you have in mind and what is it's equivalent size to compared to a standard dish?
I would say try 1m at least.
Try to do some tests with a standard 1m dish and a cheap FTA receiver, but with a good tuner and see if you can get a good signal. Would be great if you can open the window so that the dish will not have the glass in the way.
