Hello,

I'm not quite sure whether I'm in the correct forum, but here goes my question.

Well before I do so, I must admit I do not understand much about all this satellite terminology! but anyway here it goes!

I'm currently living in Spain, and I'm thinking of installing a satellite dish. On the other hand I have read about certain PC TV Cards, such as Win TV , hauppage, apparently there are three different types, analogue, digital and satellite.

Is it possible to view British Digital terrestrial channels via my satellite dish and into my computer with one these cards? If there is no way, what alternatives do I have?

I'm not quite sure anybody will be able to help!

But just in case!

Thanks a lot!

Rauland.

You can receive the free-to-air channels (BBC channels, ITV3 and some others)with your PC with a DVB-S card. Popular cards are Skystar and Twinhan, but there are others. Not sure what size dish you'd need, but I'm sure someone else will comment. Also those cards have Diseqc so you'd be able to control a multi satellite setup.

Hope that helps

:) Murcia, Alicante area 2.4m needed to cover Astra 2D, but they tell me further south, ie: Malaga etc, possible with smaller dish....down to the footprint of 2D.

Your exact location would help.

thanks,:) lovelyperson

Hi,

Thanks pgh13,claasi and lovelyperson for your replies,

I'm living in Seville, Southern Spain. But I'm a little confused still, would I be better of seeing satellite channels on my PC using one of these PCI TV cards, http://www.hauppauge.com/pages/prod_digital.html (As it says they use a decode software) or via a receiver and on my TV.

Apparently there are freeview digital terrestrial channels in the UK, which are BBC1,BBC2, ITV1,Channel 4, channel 5 plus some more, would I be able to see these on my PC using one of these PCI TV Cards and a satellite dish?

I know it also deppends on the size of my satellite dish.

I was asking myself if a PC pci TV Card would decode more channels than a satellite receiver. If so which one would you recommend?

Many thanks!
Rauland! A world of Raul.

BBC; no problem. ITV1, 2 ch4 and 5 you need a sky digibox, which are cheap enough on Ebay, and free-to-view card which has to be obtained by someone in UK.
If you are happy with just BBC then you can go with PC card or a non S*y digital receiver. Both of those are more suited should you decide that you want to look at other satellites, and may be able to receive some other encrypted channels (but not S*y).
If you are in to PCs then you may want to consider using one as the basis of a personal video recorder (see www.byopvr.com)
