Neewbie here: Modem Hangs

Hi there,

I am new to all this satelite stuff so I was hoping someone can help me.

For her birthday my wife received a dreambox (dvb500s I think). We had some guy come and set is up and it worked fine.

Until he left...

The problem we are having is that after a random period of time after watching a movie or a football match the image hangs. Now I have narowed it down to the modem hanging and needs to be reset. This is really anoying sometimes I can watch it for 10 minutes before it hangs and another time I could watch it for an hour before it hangs.

Has anyone else had this issue and if so how can I resolve it.

Theres no modem in it - its an ethernet port and should be connected to your router.

Its almost certainly set up as a card share - and the problem will be a slow update somewhere across the internet when the keys change .

Contact the chap who set it up.
 
Ok let me clarify,

The decoder is pluged in to my router and my dsl router is hanging
 
Are you running any torrent downloading software? The main culprit for causing problems with routers is peer to peer file sharing software.

Some of these applications open up too many active connections for the router to handle, then it crashes.

Can you connect to websites via your PC while the freezes are occurring?
 
Thanks for the info. Infact I am downloading at the moment. I didn't realise that affects it. I will stop that right away. And to the second part, No when the router hangs it really hangs....
