Hi Guyz
Ive been looking about on the net, can anyone advise the best aerial for me to buy, Im in a weakish area, so want to buy the best aerial to increase the signal a bit

Look for a benchmarked aerial that's been digitally approved. We tend to use the 48 element F type a fair bit.

There are still some excellent aerials which haven't been CAI benchmarked and bear in mind that the CAI is an association of manufacturers, not a government authority.

Due to the cost involved with benchmarking, some more specialised aerials will not be benchmarked, particularly the ultra high gain antennae, as the sales potential is limited.

My personal favourite of the benchmarked aerials is the XG10 by Antiference, good solid aerial which performs well.

I'll vouch for that - my XG14 has given sterling service since I installed it 20-odd years ago.

I would say that Standard 1 will give the most signal if you're going by the CAI standards.

If you are in area where all the analogue and digital channels are broadcast within the same band then it is best to NOT use a wideband aerial. One thing is for sure there is no such thing as a "digital aerial". I think installers should be done under Trading Standards for stating this.

For years in the UK we could use a contract aerial ( value option) with the advent of digital quality was needed. Listen to the lads, CAI means jack when it comes to bench marking.

When next in europe have a look at the aerials, they have been high gain for years as standard, robust with a matched balun!!

Get a wide band if sigal permits, it is future proof.
 
Yes, if your signals for DVB-T and PAL are in the same band then it is best to NOT use a wideband aerial. This is very true and will give you more gain and out of channel rejection.

What with channels being moved about after DSO, a wideband is a future proof aerial mind and is widely used.

Avoid a contract aerial for DVB-T reception.
 
Have a look at the Televes Infinito wide band aerials.

The logitudinal spar is 50% larger in cross section than most aerials, meaning less chance of fracture under cold or windy conditions. The elevation / mast clamp is neat and effective without resorting to a boom under the dipoles, (and the loop design is very good at preventing fat pigeons from congregating).
