I purchased a Technomate TM2600 along with a VU+ Solo2 and 90cm dish in spring 2015. The dish is installed below guttering at roof level in a southerly aspect - it is not exposed. The equipment has had what I would describe as light use. Perhaps a few times a month in terms of dish movements. The motor recently stopped responding to commands. I found a green LED on at the motor and tried a reset using a bent paper clip. I was able to get the motor to move a little Eastward around 50 degrees but it moves no longer in any direction. I've re-installed Blackhole 3.0.9 just to ensure there were no software issues. I'm guessing the tuner is OK.

I'm thinking the motor might be at fault and if that is the case disappointed in consideration of the little service it has given.

I need a motor that is at least as quiet as the TM2600 (preferably quieter). What would be my best options in terms of replacing the motor?

Have you got a non-Linux receiver to try with the TM2600 ?

In my experience, these Motek clones run forever.

I'd agree with the suggestion by @william-1 as it's more likely to be the demand that is amiss.

Thanks for your reply. No I do not have anything other than the TM2600.

Is there any alternative way to investigate, e.g. using a multimeter?

Edit:

I thought it should be possible to drive the motor from the buttons on the housing? I seem to recall that I tried this with no success.

Thanks. Could you elaborate a little on what you mean by demand being amiss?

It might well be that the commands being sent by the Receiver don't appear coherent to the motor.

ie the cause of your problem could be the receiver, not the motor.

OK, understood. However, I was unable to operate the motor using the buttons on the housing. I'll look out the instructions and check I did that properly.

As far as I can recall, successful reset is indicated by a flashing amber light.

I rarely manage to get the manual buttons to work - pushing those little rubber covers doesn't always seem to result in the appropriate contact being properly made.

OK, I'll try another reset.

I also switched the coax from Tuner A to Tuner B output but no difference.

Sounds more like a fault with your VU+ Solo2 & your current image to me,
Shame that you do not have a non-Linux receiver to test out your motor then you can use the VU+ Solo2 as a fixed slave for now.

Unless I'm mistaken the Technomates have only one button, press once gives one direction, short press and press moves it the other way.

I do have a grey coloured motor in the shed but I'm sure its the Technomate, not new but works well. I would send just the main part with the 13mm bolts.

Yours for a couple of beer tokens and postage

Somewhere in England (possibly?)!

Could always "buy" a cheap non-Linux receiver from Amazon to check out the motor's response to DiSEqC 1.2 /USALS commands. Then change the motor if necessary, or replace the Solo2 if that proves to be what causes the problem - and send the "new" receiver back to Amazon as "Unwanted/not suitable" (make up your own "reason"!!).

"Naughty" but it's "been done before"!
(OTOH, having a simple non-Linux receiver onhand at any time can be very useful as it's generally much simpler to set up and use than a Linux-based m/c - & especially if it has decent blindscan capability - check elsewhere in the forum for ideas as to what to "buy" if that approach appeals)

Is the motor getting power?
(does the LED still light up sometimes? Is the LNB, connected through the motor, getting constant power?)

If not, it might be broken contact at the motor F-connector.
(In that case: does changing the receiver cable to the other motor-F-connector (originally for LNB ) give you motor movement?)

Don't know the TM2600 though.
Does it have mechanical relais?
In that case one of them might be 'stuck', causing it to be ended at a limit of 60 degrees and not turning back.

In case of a fault with your VU+ Solo2 & your current image (switch-off lnb power by assumed overcurrent) its stil possible to test the motor .
Connect a 12 v DC power source to the coax cable leading to the motor and push the E/W button .

It looks like the one I have SG2100 / FTE Dimo120+
The engine reset must be done while the engine is at 0º.
The engine takes the reference and if you use usals, perfect.
If it is not at 0º when resetting, part of that position as if it were zero.
In the tuner configuration VU+Solo2 you have engine options, inside you have an option.
Go to ....
When you put on top you will see that the green box puts Go to 0, press the green button.
If all is well, the motor will be positioned at zero of the screen printing (reset now).
If it does not move, using the button as indicated by the partner, position it to zero.
When the power is ok, it turns on and green, when orders arrive by the cable (diseqc/usals commands), the LED flashes orange, if it locks and does not move, it can flash red/green all the time.
Before zeroing the engine and using the button, send the antenna several times from side to side, over time it becomes somewhat stiff and costs.
If you see that it is not going, it will pull and you did not release the button, the LED goes out, check the connectors, some are not well and you have problems with the power supply.
If it does not move with the button, insert external power as indicated by Trust1, from 13 to 18 Volts of continuous (VDC).
With 1 amp left over, negative to the chassis and positive to the center.

Ir a ....
Suerte

I have a little DiSEqC inline controller I can lend you to test the motor controls.125785

Thanks all for the helpful suggestions and offers. I'll do a reset and some basic checks on the motor today then revert back to proceed.

Thanks for the suggestion. That reminds me, I planned to provide satellite to another room. Could I use a second receiver (e.g. in a bedroom) with a pass-through from the main feed/VU+? Or is there another way to feed from the VU+? I have coax cables routed already.
