My Satellite Setup
1.9 Metre dish with
My Location
Spain, Alicante region
I live in the Alicante region of Spain. To receive the main English tv channels in this area you require a 1.8 or 2.3 dish.
I was recently informed that there is a new type of dish available that is only 85 cm in size but it will pick up the same channels as the larger 1.8 or 2.3 dishes.
Has anyone any information on this.

For reception of the majority of 2d broadcasts, a 1.8M to 2.4M dish will be required.
Lots of info in this section to browse through regarding reception in CB area.

As I said in my post, you normaly require a 1.8m or 2.3m dish for the main UK tv chanells in the Costa Blanca area. However I was told by a supplier/fitter that there is a now a new type of dish 85 cm in size which will do the same as the larger dishes.

Not a chance in hell!

Quality of design does mean that some Dishes can perform marginally better than fractionally (and I mean fractionally) larger Dishes - but the more or less parabolic section that is at the core of dish design and performance cannot really be improved upon - which means that the effective collecting area presented to the incoming signals is all important.

Let me turn the issue around and ask if you can provide further details of exactly what you were told?

(I'd like to be first in the queue for the millions of € to be made!)
 
Sadly theres no way to defeat the laws of physics and theres no substitute for large areas of metal collecting singals in very weak signal areas

No this has nothing to do with the rebroadcasting service that is available in this area.
I have been told by two different tv instalers that there is a smaller, new type of dish, capable of doing the same as the large dishes.
I will try to find out more detail and post it.

Well no photos yet but this is the information being given out at the moment.

Boldlygoes, I think these "installers" are pulling your leg. If there was any truth in this story, someone on this forum - apart from yourself - would have heard about it by now.

The bit in red it the bit that is not true. It's "Showtime". Lots of programs are from BBC, ITV, etc. but the channels are not.

You could be right, but why several companies would pay to advertise this new technology in newspapers, makes no sense.

I know the long established members and experts on this forum have a great knowledge base, but could it be that they just have not heard of it.
On my other post, regarding a problem entering satellite receiver keys, the same experts havent managed to resolve it for me as yet. Perhaps they are not as on the ball as you think. :)

LOL, there's more than a little difference between not having many members here who know the unofficial menu codes for the Golden Interstar (not the most popular of receivers) and not having heard about what would be considered a massive technical innovation and something which would take the industry by storm. Any manufacturer with such a product would be shouting it from the rooftops.:)
 
Maybe - possibly - I really don´t know, But......

Could they be beaming site to site and using the smaller dish angled right down??
This could be how they are getting those channels on a small dish.
How they are transmitting - I dunno.

Could be - I´m guessing - please don't shoot me
