My Satellite Setup
many Computers, looking for STB
Hello all,

I'd like to buy a new STB, and I was confused, what to buy ??

I have some options, first astra 9100 (as I remember), and Humax 5100, and 5400.

Are those STB good, and if you prefer one of them, please tell me why ?

Are there any better STBs ?

My Satellite Setup
Technomate 5402 HD M2 Ci, DM7000s, Transparent 80cm Dish, Moteck SG2100 DiseqC motor, lots of legacy gear. Meters: Satlook Digital NIT, Promax HD Ranger+ spectrum analyser.

The choice now is pretty much endless, the Humax 5400 you mention above is an oldie but goodie and new software is still being written for it. Unfortunately you will need to do a bit of reading to see which receiver suits you best, it'll depend on how good you are with computers as to whether some will suit.

Will you want a motorised system and how big a dish?

I don't mind reading, I just want to get some pointers to start comparing, and checking users reviews.

Do you have any suggestion for a new STB as good as the 5400 (as you say, the 5400 is old).

My current setup is not motorised, but I'm planning for a Big motorized dish.

I suggest you buy KAON. There is a lot soft around for all platforms.

If I were to start a system from scratch, i would probably go for a 1.2m dish with a 36volt motor and interface it via a vBox to a Dreambox 7020.

I heared also that Techomate is very good, and Humax 5400

If you used any of those, please tell me what you liked most in your system, and what you hated most ?
