Hi, Currently Looking to install a new System, 0.8m satellite dish, picking up both astra 19.2e and hotbird 13.e with 2 lnb's. can anyone recommend a good receiver for the astra channels as will be using sky box for sky italia on 13.e heard technomate and Humax are the best, also blade??. and have been advised to have dish pole mounted, is this okay as thought dish would be attached directly to my house.

Welcome.
With regards to mounting the dish, a wall mount will suffice unless you need to mount the dish at height above gutter to clear an obstacle. These are two very strong birds, your location is not that far North requiring too larger dish for these satellites.
 
thanks satelliteman, can I ask anyone whether they think 80cm is okay for my position or could I use a smaller satellite dish, was advised to go for 0.8m as would give a good signal even in really bad weather. also anyone know any good receivers for Astra 19.2 for a beginner?

80cm is plenty for those two satellites. Satellite receivers... there are so many, it's a bit like asking what car to get. All depends on what you're looking for.
 
80cm is plenty, honesty wouldn't go smaller. I'd recommend a Technomate, depends on your budget obviously mate.

Thanks for the advice folks. 0.8m it is. as for receiver I have budget of about £150, looking for receiver with blind scan, expansion slot to add a CAM would be okay but if not, not to fussed. I do have another list of what I'm looking for but will need to re-post as cannot remember at this time.
 
Hi Dave, a TM5402HD M3 would suit your needs just fine and costs under £100 delivered from sponsors. It's only a single tuner, though, so you might want to consider something else if you want to record and watch different channels on different transponders/satellites.
 
hi guys, further to my previous post, would you recommend a twin tuner and if so, any good ones about for less than £150. also if i go down twin tuner route does this require twin cabling like sky+HD, or can i get away with single cable.
 
You need at least two cable runs, and a twin, or quad, LNB, if using the same dish/lnb.
Unlike Sky+ receivers, you can use the twin tuners, on better quality receivers, as if they were two separate receivers, or as a normal twin tuner, to view/record, off the same satellite.
You can also use multiple LNB's, and dishes, with a Diseqc switch, to have both tuners capable of receiving numerous satellites/channels.
If you plan to stick with 19.2E, and 13E, I would advise , 2 x Diseqc switches, and 3, or 4, cable runs, allowing both tuners to view/record any available channel, on both 19.2E and 13E.
A quad LNB, for 13E, allowing 2 cables for your Sky Italia receiver, if it has two tuners, and 2 connections for your other receiver, and a twin LNB for 19.2E.
 
Thanks Mickha, i'm pretty new to this however i believe i understand your setup advice. if i'm honest i was looking for a fairly basic system to start, then may look to play around in future. the setup i was looking at was a simple 0.8m dish with 2 quad lnbs, the 13e for italian tv wired to 1 room(Room A), and the astra lnb going into both rooms(Room A & Room X )Sky Italia Box for hotbird and 2 non descript receivers for astra.
 
Is it just a basic sky Italia receiver? SD or mini HD (Single input box like our multiroom boxes). I had a wee basic SD sky Italia box, a Samsung I remember, single feed in, was fed via my Diseqc switch via my other receivers loop thru, this worked because I had 13E on port one of the switch. Your defo needing two quads mate?

hi ghostleader, the box is a grey DS831NS HD box, the reason for quad LNB was originally was looking at a sky italia PVR, but have since changed my mind. I was in the first instance just looking at sky italia, however I have since got carried away with the possible return to euro tv, (Originally had sky back in 1995, Good times). also have since been advised that if wish to record and view other things quad lnb is the way to go..
 
As shocking as I find this to say I'm not even sure that you can use the PVR models of Sky Italia with pre paid cards (Which I'm assuming it is) so maybe nowt lost there anyway. A dual feed is always a good idea these days anyhow mate, basic future proofing really.

just what i thought re the sky italia, so as you say nothing really lost there. i did think that having the dual feed was a good idea as you say future proofing. also decided will likely go down the TM 5402HD route at present as seems a decent cheap enough box to start with and in future can easily change as and when required, but still thinking a twin tuner may be best but yet to find what i feel would be good starting point., thanks for the help.
 
Always best to run the cabling, for any future needs, you can easily use self amalgamating tape, to protect any unused cable, from getting water ingress.
Have you worked out where you want to run the cables?
If drilling a hole, through a wall, you could always run a small, plastic, pipe, so any cables can slide through with ease, then use some kind of expanding foam, or a cap, to block the hole, once the work is completed.
 
the setup is being installed by a local company, however the cables will be run thru the external wall into 2 bedrooms. the cable length is minimal as the dish sits right outside both rooms.
