My Satellite Setup
Ross FTA kit with 65cm Dish
My Location
Northern Ireland
Hi,

I recently purchased the ross fta kits that B&Q had on offer. This was my first satellite dish and I have enjoyed the process of setting up the dish and watching new channels on Astra 28E. I have tried moving the dish and think I managed to get the Hotbird 13E satellite.

I would like to expand my current setup as I have enoyed my tinkering up to this point. I was thinking of buying a motor to increase the satellites I can view but will my current dish limit my choices? Perhaps I would be better purchasing a larger dish first?

Hello k_dermot

Welcome to the forum.

Yes you are correct a 65cm will limit your reception possibilities across the arc, having said that you can take things in stages if money is an issue however 80cm would in my opinion be the best to buy next. It really all depends upon what you want to achieve with your setup, anything in particular?

Hi Topper,

Thanks for your reply. Yes, as I'm new to the hobby I would rather invest in stages and as my budget and experience grows. I was thinking if I got the motor first then I could upgrade the dish at a later stage? But would I be likely to receive other satellites (not just 28E and 13E) with the current dish?

I don't have any particular viewing requirements although if I was to prioritise I would say sports (don't mind if these are non-english) and documentaries. I would also like to just scan around and see what is out there.
