Newbie question and Maplin HD kit advice

You have got the incoming cable put on the tuner input and not the loopthrough ?
 
Hello all sorry I haven't replied in a while.. and many thanks for all the suggestions. Work has eaten into my satellite fiddling time!
So I checked all angles again. still nothing. Next I will have my receiver tested..

The only other thing I can think of Line of sight.. Nearest obstacle is 50m away and 30m high.
Could that cause complete lack of signal?

Checked in the hope that perhaps they were installed the wrong way round. Nope. The top one is the input and drives the motor. The loopthrough is as labeled the bottom one. No motor power.. no anything really.

    Agreed that fiddling around can work wonders with one amendment. Signal quality is more indicative than signal strength.​
No signal no quality.

    I think we need you to upload some photos, as unless the receiver is faulty, or you have changed the LNB settings to something incorrect, you must be doing something wrong.

    Which satellite are you lining up on for your due South? Have you looked at the setup guides in the sticky threads section at the top of this section?​
I will do when I have some more time and once the receiver is checked. I'm 95% sure it's all right though..

I haven't changed anything in the LNB settings.. Power is on, diseqc is off (it's a single LNB)
Should I change any LNB settings?

I have lined up to true south, used USALS to co to a satellite then tweaked with the manual motor buttons and a signal meter. Verified satellite with satfinder app and compass.

Any other ideas plesae do let me know.. I'll post again with the receiver test results.
 
"No signal, no quality": Generally you get an apparent signal strength reading even if the dish is grossly misaligned - whilst this misleads some folk as they think they really are receiving something, it does actually help because it indicates that an LNB is connected and powered up. Ergo, I am suspicious as to why you have zilch.


"Should I change any LNB settings?": Depends. Power on, DiSEqC off is fine as far as it goes. But you should have an option to select LNB type - you need to check that Universal or Universal 1, or Universal 9750/10600 is selected (Nomenclature depends on receiver type, but the three I quoted are equivalent).
 
Yes, even just connecting up an LNB will give a reading on the signal strength (which is why it shouldn't be relied uponm for alignment). However, in your case something else seems to be amiss.

Can you make up a short legth of co-axial satellite cable and connect an LNB to the receiver in the room? Pay particular attention to the plugs so that absolutely NO whisp of the outside braid is shorting across to the centre wire. Secondly, if you have a multimeter you could see if there is a voltage reading on the LNB input of the receiver. This should be within a volt of either 13v or 18v depending on which polarisation the channel you have selected is on.
