Newbie , what to buy ?

I'm a complete newbie so a little help would be appreciated. I have a Sky sat system at the moment, which I'm considering swapping for a motorised system, to be honest I haven't a clue what to buy.
I would like a system that would give me a similar product in term of viewing choices to sky , but without the arm and a leg £££ each month. Not looking for anything illegal just good value , would this be possible from a motorised system? If so what do I need ?
Any input would be great

Ps was looking at purplesat for system and install, any views ?

Hello and welcome to the forum.
If you are just looking for BBC/ITV/CH4etc, just get a freesat receiver and keep everything else. No cost per month.
If you want the movies and sports, the options are a bit limited - you may find the footy on other sats (but probably also with other language soundtracks).

If you do want international channels, and are not frightened by French, German or Italian language, then go for a simple DiSEqC motor with a 60 cm dish on it.
You may have to sieve your way through gazillions of arab-language channels, but there's plenty of interesting stuff around on the major sats.

Of course, if you just want to watch BBC + som films on demand, Get an arial and a NetFlix subscription to your Connected TV...

Choice is yours.

Well I've got sky so at the moment that's what I watch, sky 1, Atlantic ,Sky living , with all the other free channels .
I suppose I'm really trying to decide can I do without sky.
The motorised system really appeals and I was just trying to gauge what I would gain/lose if I chose that route

The Sky UK branded channels are not available via satellite elsewhere so if they are important to you then you need to keep your Sky UK subscription up.

Think of a motorised system as an add on, not a replacement. (Or the gateway to a fascinating new hobby)
 
There are many good value packages out there for not a lot of money. Focus Sat is one of them - very cheap and plentyful channels. Granted, you won't get Sky branded ones but you'll get the usual ones, like Discovery, National Geographic and a bunch of sports and movie channels. Up front cost might be more expensive if you buy via third party, which you'll likely have to (and this applies to all foreign subscription channels) but on going costs are fractions of a Sky sub.
