Welcome to the forum Harlequin. I'm sure that if you read the whole of this thread you'll see the irony of your post and the responses. Unfortunately the much discussed Newbies Corner never happened. Probably because it's too big a subject and, as we're all volunteers here, would require a massive investment of time. I'll give a brief response. Firstly, in order to receive ALL the channels including the Beeb, ITV and C4 you'll need a large (90cm upwards) dish depending on where you are. For instance, down in the Costa Brava you'll need a 1.3m dish but it isn't a linear progression in sizes across the country. There are hotspots and coldspots which affect the size needed. If you're buying your dish in Spain be aware that they measure the size vertically which off-set dishes sound bigger. The rest of the world measures the size horizontally as this is the real effective size (off-set dishes are oval, prime focus are round). There are a lot of cheap dishes available that need a LOT of time to set up and, unless you're careful, a 1.8m dish will only perform like a 1.5m dish. This thread http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/fringe-reception-general/172830-prime-focus-maplins-any-good.html will give you a good idea on people's opinions of this.
