Nilesat 201

how strong was the signal/dish size?
stronger then the old bird?

We dont know atm - theres only been a couple of reports - both from outside the UK..

Nothing here either, though it's has been raining quite heavily. Easing off now as I'm getting a few horizontals back on. However my guess is that the transponder will be very intermittent for a while yet. I'll check again tomorrow if it's fine.

I just superimposed the spectrum trace from yesterday and there's nothing new on there. And nothing currently active on 12635H.

any action off this bird yet?? seems to be taking ages!!

no nothing yet..!
good things needs time:)

I just noticed these... probably nothing... maybe just feeds.

11045 H 8500 3/4 4 channels
11065 H 2102 3/4 Service 2 SD
11070 H 2102 3/4 ISHTARFEED
11080 H 2222 3/4 Karbala_PATH_1
11090 H 2852 3/4 EN8000
11097 H 2102 3/4 SNG1

The first frequency 11045 H 8500 3/4 4 channels I am getting hugh signal on 90+% had to move dish though to peak it. So it may be from a neighbouring satellite. Three channels there Mkis Feed, Music now & Fann. IRTE 2m dish SW Eng. Also getting 11080 H 2222 3/4 Karbala_PATH_1 & 11090 H 2852 3/4 EN8000 currently showing colour bars POC 4:3 SD TEST & running digital clock.

^^^ I'm fairly confident those are channels from 8 west and not Nilesat 201, unfortunately.

Yes, the above frequencies are definately from the neighbouring atlantic bird 2 @ 8w, been stored in my receiver for months now.

On the 17th of september ( 2 days ago ) , Nilesat 201 was officially delivered to nilesat company by Thales Alenia Space after the latter completed the inorbit positioning , tests and control for more than 3 weeks .
We are waiting now for the 1st frequency to go live .

i don't think you should wait...the company did assure us that this new satellite will not be received in europe even with the most biggest dishes..it will only be directed to MENA region..

furthermore...the channels on Atlantic bird 4A have the freedom to switch to this bird or not...
NileSat 102/101 channels will switch for sure to the new sat. after some time the NileSat 101 will be taken off air..

this is the whole procedure, which is a big disadvantage for users in europe.

regards...

Hello!
good evening!
just found this intresting information(google translated)

According to the manufacturer of NILESAT 201 and Regional African Satellite Communication QAF1R, Thales Alenia Space, the decrease of the satellite ran checks on their orbits around the Earth, also known as IOAR for In Orbit Acceptance Review, to the satisfaction of customers. After the two satellites in the fourth August 2010 from the upper stage of Ariane-5 rocket, which was launched in Kourou has been suspended in space, were Thales Alenia Space was in collaboration with Telespazio for both satellites in parallel each of which the first commissioning phase, also called the LEOP for Launch and Early Orbit phase is called settled. In the satellite control of Thales Alenia Space in Cannes and facilities in the Italian Telespazio Fucino cooperated closely. Following LEOP followed for each satellite a three-week test period, which also called for IOT In-Orbit Tests. These two satellites were monitored around the clock by Thales Alenia Space in Cannes.

With Nilesat 201 will provide the Egyptian state-controlled operator Nilesat Africa and the Middle East with radio and television and broadband internet. That is equipped with 7 degrees west positioned in geostationary orbit satellite with 24 Ku-band transponders and four Ka-band transponders.

Regional African Satellite Communication QAF1R RascomStar of the Regional African Satellite Communication Organization for QAF1 planned replacement satellite. Regional African Satellite Communication QAF1 consumed after its launch in 2007 due to a helium leak significantly more fuel to reach the geostationary orbit than planned, which is why the commercial life of the satellite reduced considerably. Instead of a possible deployment of 15 years was expected to only two to three years, they have passed the intervening period. With 12 Ku-band and eight C-band transponders, the new Regional African Satellite Communication QAF1R supply for 15 years Africa, parts of Europe and the Middle East with television, telecommunications and the Internet. The satellite is stationed at 2.9 East in geostationary orbit.

Nilesat 201 is indexed with the NORAD-No. 36 830 or as COSPAR object 2010-037A.

Ah good old google. I guess it sort of makes sense :D

OK no it doesnt :-rofl2

Dear Turok :

This is the original statement:

Cannes, September 17, 2010 – Rascom-QAF1R and Nilesat 201 telecommunications satellites, launched from Kourou in French Guiana by an Ariane 5 ECA rocket on August 4, are now in operation. They have successfully passed their In Orbit Acceptance Review (IOAR), to the full satisfaction of the customers. Built by Thales Alenia Space,
Rascom-QAF1R and Nilesat-201 will develop communication services over the Middle East and Africa from their orbital positions at 2.9° East and 7° East longitude respectively.

After the satellites’ separation, Thales Alenia Space in cooperation with Telespazio successfully managed nine days of two simultaneous LEOPs (Launch and Early Orbit Phase) for both satellites. This is the first time that the Space Alliance’s dual mission capability was used to conduct two GEO missions strictly in parallel, following a launch aboard the same launcher. This dual LEOP capability was already experienced in June 2008 with the launch of Turksat 3A & Chinasat 9 aboard Ariane 5 and Long March launchers respectively, but with a three days interval between the two lift-offs. The two LEOP campaigns were implemented by the Thales Alenia Space Control Centre in Cannes in close cooperation with the Telespazio Control infrastructures located in the Fucino Space Centre.

This LEOP phase was followed by three weeks of In Orbit Tests. During this phase, the two satellites were controlled 24 hours a day, and seven days a week by Thales Alenia Space from their satellite control centres located in Cannes.

“We are delighted to have delivered these highly capable satellites in orbit to
RascomStar-QAF and Nilesat,” said Emmanuel Grave, Vice President Telecommunications of Thales Alenia Space. “The entire orbital positioning phase and in-orbit tests proceeded flawlessly, enabling us to operate safely in parallel these two satellites. We hope our customers have all the success in expanding their markets.”

With this latest qualification and service entry, RASCOM-QAF1R will ensure service continuity for the operator RascomStar-QAF and its customers, providing low cost international connections between African countries and connecting isolated villages via low cost terminals and Nilesat 201 will enable the Egyptian satellite operator Nilesat to ensure service continuity in delivering digital Direct to Home (DTH) TV, radio broadcasting and high-speed data transmission services to the North Africa and the Middle East.

Good afternoon,

I called called the guys at Nilesat” The Egyptian Satellite Company on Monday 20th Sep and they informed me that Nilesat 201 will official be active in 4 weeks time. So the wait is still on but hopefully a test frequency will be up soon.

We have to wait another 4 weeks? :D
