Hi guys,



I hope I'm in the right section. I'm new to this forum.

I am trying to catch Nilesat 101 & 102 together and also Hot bird 13 (8) for arabic channels there from Germany (going there for vacation) I have two homes there, one in Frankfurt and Meinestadt


I want to get all the channels, not just Vertical but i'm also leaning toward to get all Horizontal channels with great quality as much as I can. I have read some postings from this forum, specifically from member RD100, I'm trying to decide if Fortec star 1.8m (180CM) will do it for me or will Andrews 1.8m (180CM) is better? I will like to watch 24/7 even under rain and windy weather. I'm will be awaiting for the reply, thanks.
 
All I can say is that in the SE corner of the UK, a decent 1.8m prime focus dish will get ALL Nilesat transponders, even in the snow. No doubt a 1.8m CM will perform slightly better. Not convinced on the 1.8m Fortec star though.

The more east you go the easier it is normally.
 
The bigger Fortec Star dishes are cheaply made piles of junk. Avoid at all costs - they under perform and have a nasty habit of folding up in gales.
 
Well, Again the location is Dortmund or Frankfurt. London maybe a different deal, I assume Dortmund or Frankfurt might have advantage being near the Beam, I'm just taking a guess.



Fortec star might not be good but which Dish should i get for my needs?
I will want to reach the following Frequencies 11843 H 11881 H 12034 H Most important 3 for me and obviously would like to see the rest 24/7 Will 1.5 M metres be good in those two cities or is it safe to go with 1.8?
 
1.5m should definitely be enough for 12034H, as it is a little stronger than the other two. I think a 1.8m would be a safe bet given your location, and I too would guess that you have a slight advantage over London.

I would very much guess that 1.5m would be sufficient, but not ever having tried a 1.5m, and not ever seen what the signal levels are realy like in Germany, it is a pure guestimate.

The thing is, as you might already know, the difference in price between a reasonable 1.5m and a 1.8 is sigificant. Mght be worth trying a 2nd hand 1.5m if you get hold of one, then you'll know for sure. The 1.5m Gibertini would be a reasonable example.

BtW, currently getting 11919H,11996H,12226H,12303Hwith a good picture here, near London.
 
Sound very reasonable. I also felt 1.5 might do it. I think 1.5 will be great in Frankfurt but 1.8 is safe bet in Dortmund.




I'm actually not sure which dish to get really. The cost seem to vary a lot. I originally wanted to go with Fortec star 1.8 m but hard complains a about as far as I can see. Andrews 1.8 is expensive, but quality might be better. What do you suggest with which dish to get? I'm talking about the brand obviously heh (1.5 Gibertini sounds like an idea, but want to go with best quality 24/7 watching channels and all of them)
 
You really need someone in Germany near your location to answer this.

The ASC signal 1.8m is very expensive, but should do the job. I would not go as far as recommend one as per the reason given in my post before. Personally I would try for a 2nd hand 1.5m and see how it fares.
 
Ok thanks, I will see what I can do. I might do streaming from Germany to United States by Slingbox so picture and channels ought to be good. I don't mind paying up to 500 - 600 Dollars/Euros to get all channels. It's just that if Fortec star does the job at the cheaper price then why not :cool:
