My Satellite Setup
Dansat decoder stargold Universal single LNB 70 DB 65 cm Dish

Hello, Apoligies if this is in wrong section,

I have a 65cm dish, with a 70db LNB and a dansat decoder....

I wish to pick up the Nilesat sat but I cannot find the position I should point it at or the elavation.

I am in Jeddah Saudi Arabia.

Also there are alot of setting on the dansat box what settings(tp freq etc) do i need to watch the nile sat channels

I am a complete newbie to this so any help would be greatful!
 
Hi Solace1, welcome to the forum.

You can use this app to find roughly which direction to point the dish http://www.satellites.co.uk/forums/dishpointer.php

It will also give you the elevation figure. If you have an offset dish with an elevation scale, then it should be fairly easy to set the rough parameter, all you'll need to do then is zero in on the signal using the signal strength and quality display on your receive, or a cheap satellite signal strength meter.

If you set up your receiver for Nilesat in the satellite list, it should already have the Frequencies listed and the basic setting are normally standard so can be left as they are..
 
I have also tried to go onto the nss6 sat for a trail, but no matter what direction i point the sat in/elevation/or the skew my intensity stays at 66% and qaulity at 4-5%

I have a 20m cable if this helps and a stargold 70db lnb
 
yes given up that idea I have a KVH Trac vision system on its way to me. but this is for my berthing spot.

the sat is now on a stable platform on the side of the marina, pointing at the right satellite but still the same quality and intensity!

advice please???
 
How do you know it's pointing at the right Satellite?

this is the best i could get it with a compass and protractor (i know your going to say this isnt the best way and you may not be pointing at the right sat, but I have had me outside and my mate inside, moving the dish all over the place with small movements at a time)

no matter where I move the dish the quality or intensity DOES NOT change!!

must be missing something here?
 
The dish will be an offset one?

If so, then you need to take into account that the offset angle of around 25 degrees need to be taken into account when setting the dish elevation.

It is not uncommon for people to think that an Elevation of 30 deg (for example) means the dish face is at 30 deg - It isn't. It should be at 30 - c.25 deg ie much less.

i dont really understand but the LNB arm is at 32.8 from the gound if this helps

also my skew only goes from +30 to -30! so my skew is only rough
