no ethernet on a DB500...

(Sometimes) When I start the DB500, it doesn't connect to the ethernet router (no light...). so I have to reboot, and sometimes poweroff my DB...
(It seems to be worst if I use a static IP... so I have to use DHCP in order to increase the chance to get connected...)

Why does this happen? Is it normal?!?

Know next to nothing about the 500, but sounds mighty suspect. What image are you running? Any chance you can swap it for a new one? Any chance you can swap the box for a new one???

It happens with Hydra and neutrino...
I could try to swap the box.. but I'm sure it would take several weeks to for the seller to give me a new one...


After starting the DB (cold boot) with the router powered off, if you later on switch ON the router, does the DB get connected? (does the led in the router light up?)

It depends how often it "looks" for a network connection.

I would switch the router on first.
 
It should connect on demand.

I take it that you can't ping the dreambox from another PC on the network in this state?
 
Had (and still have) similar problem with my DM5620s.

Have to switch it on and off few times to be able to FTP it. Have to peep whether the red light is in on or off the hole at the back of the dreambox. Sometimes it is on and sometimes off!!

Wonder why too???
 
The red light should come on as soon as the DB is powered up. It does not matter if the ethernet connection (ping) is working or not. If the light does not come on, my guess is that there is no connection from the pc/router side. regards, pcd.

no pings... the easier way to know if the DB is connected or not is to look at the lights in the front of the router....

In order to get network after cold booting, I have to reboot the DB...
AND sometimes this doesn't work!!! I have to plug it off and restart the process...
(I use a brand new ethernet cable so the problem has to be in the DB...)

this is very anoying...
Can it be a hardware fault?

Can't see any other explanation. I heard someone else here was trying out a USB Ethernet gadget to get around the problem of a fried Ethernet card in the DB. Don't know how he got on. :(
