Try telling that to the hundreds of thousands of women who contracts cervical cancer every year from the HPV (papillo virus) that hibernates under the foreskin of men, oh damn you can't cos they are DEAD!

Ignorance is bliss except in this case it is stupidity to gob off without knowledge of the full facts at you finger 'tips' as it were, whilst also ignoring the enormous (in some cases) benefits to men. You have obviously spent far too much time reading conspiracy theory websites and been infected with the BDS virus

No, I just have 30 years experience of having been circumcised at the age of 4 with what must have been a butterknife and duct tape, resulting in it not functioning properly, being uncomfortable when up, and looking horrible to the point it causes me to lack confidence in that department...

But, y'know, experience apparently means nothing these days...

Gotta love statistics.

All parties appear to agree on abstinence being the most effective in preventing transfer of something itchy, quickly followed by a regular scrub using carbolic soap.

Don't agree, experience accounts for a lot especially when one has experience of both worlds like myself, 28 in one and 37 in the other and I can assure you circumcised is far better

So, you had the choice? I didn't, nor did many millions of other young boys throughout the years who have had it done for various reasons, I've still yet to get a clear answer as to why I was done, but suffice to say, it is still an evil practice, it's up there with FGM, it's interfering with a child's genitalia for no good reason.

Scarring, pain, discomfort, mutilation, and that's just my own experience, I don't see that as "better"...

That is extremely unlucky for you, sounds like you had a butcher rather than a person who studied a minimum of 5 years for a medical degree who has then trained and qualified for a further 3 years to perform such delicate surgery. Well FGM is not and never could be a necessary practice, it is a practice performed by a specific group or religious misogynists who will stop at nothing to satisfy their own needs whilst destroying their sexual partner's enjoyment in their desire to control women and for no other reasons, so can not be considered in the same realms as circumcision. You yourself stated 'millions of little boys for various reasons' and if those reasons involved any of the very nasty injuries that can occur through 'fly zips' or infections or STI's so you think what? you think they should be left to die of blood poisoning or an infection? or it turning black and falling off? Sounds like that chip on your shoulder is a permanent fixture.

With or without foreskin, STIs, Infections or injuries through forgetting to put it away before zipping up (seriously, people are that dumb??) occur, heck, I've had minor infections due to the nature of the scarring and the fact that skin that shouldn't be on the member containing hair (as it had "stretched to fit" as it were as I grew up) has become sore and infected through no fault of my own, not through sexual acts or otherwise...

Yeah, I must have had a moron for a surgeon, I also must have had a moron for a doctor too who recommended I be sliced like that and have far too much skin removed, the only "reason" I have to date for it being done is "difficulty urinating", no mention of any infection, swelling, damage, injury, etc, all of which can be treated without going under the knife...

And the after-effects, I remember the ungodly pain I had to suffer after the operation, a pain no child should EVER have to feel, and of course the sensation of the now unprotected part of the member rubbing on clothing before it desensitised, not only did it result in looking like I'd been dosed with viagra for a few weeks, coupled with the pain of post-op stitches and scars, it was horrific to deal with...

It's not a chip on my shoulder that is permanent, it's the disfigurement I see every day, every time I have to interact with it, the memories of after it was done, if you've never been through such trauma, you'd never really understand...

Hanging onto the whole infections thing as a reason to slice and dice, no, that is not a good enough excuse, removal of part of the body on the slim off chance that it may retain something unwanted after a chance encounter, you may aswell play the lottery as that'd have better odds...

Firstly you have no idea what 'I have been through' and are therefore are totally unqualified to comment or indeed draw comparisons, you on the other hand feel it is your right to 'play social warrior' and class 'all circumcisions' as an evil practice regardless of the circumstances of their occurrence or necessity, because things did not work out for you. Your own personal stance is a reaction to the failure of your parents or parent to take action or monitor you following your surgery. It is ridiculous to blame your scenario on the actual practice of circumcision itself, which as mentioned is carried out for a variety of reasons on millions of men worldwide. I note you failed to answer the question of what you suggest should be done with the hundreds of thousands of men who require such surgery for this 'variety' of different reasons.
Your final comment regarding the infections just highlights your prejudice, in the vast majority of cases the very reason for circumcision is as a last resort following multiple infections caused by a non-retractable foreskin, which cannot be kept clean, the removal of which, whilst making it extremely sensitive for a few weeks, then gives the owner a lifetime free from such infections, I can only assume your GP had similar thoughts regarding your todger.

You point out that it's done to millions of men worldwide, they had the choice though, as there are non-surgical methods to deal with tight and non-retractable foreskins, but some of those people just want a fast and quick solution, no patience, others are pressured into it, and some of those who were suffered as a result. I'll point you to this article on a young man who took his own life because he had been ill-informed and pressured by an impatient doctor:

Ways to deal with improperly functioning foreskin? Manual manipulation to separate it, steroid creams to expand the skin, "exercising" the skin, etc., plenty of other options too, if it's infected, antibiotics tend to help, granted they're thrown around like halloween treats these days, but used appropriately, they work. The claim that the skin passes on infections, that's down to its' keeper, if he chooses to be the proud owner of itch-tainted knobcheese, then frankly he should have the whole unit removed, not just the skin, there's no good reason for being a typhoid mary after all...

But that aside, I stated that it was done to millions of children, those who have no choice, whose parents are the ones who are convinced to have it done. As I've said, I don't know why I was done, no mention of infection, tightness, stuck (but at the age of 4, the majority of members are still "stuck together" and have yet to naturally separate, given they're still underdeveloped and all!), etc., thankfully in this country such surgeries are now restricted to "absolutely necessary only", but was too late for the likes of myself. As for after-care, that's something that was a part of the trauma, peeing with a painful wound full of stitches, agonising, bathing in saline to keep the wounds clean, agonising, the feeling of those stitches being caught on clothing, agonising, the sensations from the glans that was now exposed, well, how the hell was I meant to know how to respond to that as a 4 year old? These are things that stick in memory for a lifetime, granted there are far worse things, but these are the memories I have, and I have to live with...

But I will continue to state that the trauma I went through as a child is something no child should ever go through, the lies I recall prior to the op (topical anaesthetic cream where they would stick a drip into my hand, they called "New skin!", the application of the general anaesthetic, a game called "Blow up the balloon!", the laughable terming it as my "new willy!", etc.) that they had to tell because I was a child, the subsequent years of it being something I'm embarrassed about, ashamed of and upset by, all through no fault of my own, to dismiss that as "prejudice", that's just pure ignorance...

Interesting to be referred to as an SJW though, somebody who points out the negatives of something, instantly an SJW, funny that.......

Yes you had a traumatic event in your life but I repeat you have formed that opinion because of your own experiences and yet you contend that circumcision is an evil practice despite the medical evidence to the contrary, despite the fact that the incidence of cervical cancer is reduced in women who have partners that are circumcised, despite the fact that at least 1.5 billion men in the world are circumcised. Yes anyone can find a single link to a sad on-line report to support their hypothesis but that one case and your own personal story do not contra the 1.5 billion successful operations.

Quite free not to answer the question below of course, but in order to bring forward some closure, on a thread gone tangential. ('advocate')

since you have the background to respond as an adult, what made you choose the quite delicate surgical procedure carried out, at 28 , or was it 37 ?

(The above question, assumes, as per the thread title, it was not blindly recommended by a third party).

Earlier this year I voiced my opinion on circumcision on twitter after reading the BBC article above, first time I'd ever opened up to it outside of the privacy of my bedroom, and, would you believe that there are thousands more like me? Well, I'm sure you wouldn't, but there are, they all had trauma of some kind, both as adult and child, either through botched surgery, through post-op treatment failure, the severe discomfort they were left in, and in the worst case, having to have the whole penis removed. Better? I don't think so, neither do they, I'm one voice amongst millions, and there are millions more who won't talk about it owing to the likes of those who tell them to shut up because they have no opinion...

Cervical cancer caused by infections are easily preventable with the use of protection, if a couple engage in the act without it and unwanted stuff is passed between them, they're both to blame, and using that as an excuse for brutal surgery to one side when the other is just as guilty, that is not on. Advocating surgery for preventing something that is a one in a million chance, no...

It's an old fashioned thing for an old fashioned time, and progress is leaving it in the past where it belongs.

Without a clear direction either way on the decision, was this ever decided ?.

From the paragraphs I've read it has genuine concern for individuals, those with medical and/or genetic issues, though there iappears to be a divide between birth defects and trouble following maturity.

So where is the issue for what is a medical procedure to 'fix' , or is this down to , as 2CV has confirmed, something that occurred years back, of which the reasons have either been mislaid, or lost through the passage of time ?

I've refrained from commenting so far, but I have to say that I had a circumcisium when only a few months because of some sort of infection in 1948 - but I have had no "repercussions" (healthwise, or "otherwise"!) from that ever since then.

Therefore, whilst I think that both @2cv and @Topper have valid issues and points, the "world" has changed and so let's not prolong this "discussion" too much longer because it's going "nowhere":(

Way off the thread's original topic now, so time to close.
