My Satellite Setup
Master Focus 90cm .Gigablue UHD Quad 4K on TM 2600 motor. *Tm 5402 HD M3, *Atemio Nemesis. *Not Used.
My Location
Southern England
Spent all day at a friends trying to get his setup going. Checked everything 3 times. Tried a new connection direct from the lnb to receiver, bypassing the TM 2600 motor, swopped the lnb, reset the receiver, TM 5402 HD and still nothing. tried the dish in all positions. Zilch. Get a signal on the cheap sat finder Can it be the new receiver? Weary from climbing up and down the ladders. Will see if I can borrow a box just to check before he sends his TM5402 back.

cable issue? copper strand from cable touching the sheath? pointing at the wrong sat so that the receiver is scanning on the "wrong" frequencies? tried a blindscan? skew set correctly?

The value of prayer is often overlooked :)
 
How good a signal did you get, on the cheap satellite meter?
A cheap meter, will give you a reading, even when not pointing at a satellite, if you have the sensitivity at full, approximately how many times did you adjust the sensitivity, to get the strongest readings, before you had maximized the signal?
Did you try manually scanning in all the channels, on all the available satellites, using william-1's strongest transponders guide?

Good signal on the meter, had to keep adjusting the sensitivity down and yes I used Williams-1 list. I even did a blind scan on several sats with the motor connected. Motor moves but not a flicker of a signal.

motors.... :) I once made the mistake (detailed in another thread) of setting the wrong latitude on my motor - 44 instead of 46 - and thus while it worked fine for 7E (my most southerly sat) it wouldn't find much else. How about if you remove the motor and bolt the dish directly to the mast and try setting that up? It'll mean a few more return trips up the ladder, though....
 
The dish is set exactly right, checked it several times. last go is to do a blind scan on 10 satellites across the range. It will takes yonks and in the meantime I am asking around if anyone local has a sat receiver I can borrow for a few hours. I want to finish it today as I have my own to sort out.

Afraid not. I have a sister who lives near Shillingford in Devon. Went down at Xmas and set her Freesat system up. 80 years old, as fit as fiddle, lives in the middle of nowhere and hasn't had a TV for 40 years. problem was she had to have 4 birch trees removed to get a signal. Freeview was not possible, no signal in the valley.
 
Stuck on the sat meter and did a scan. Needle moves and get pitched sound as it scans but no reaction from the sat receiver. Give up. Time to borrow a receiver before this gets sent back.
 
Can't you take the receiver to your house, to set everything up?
Once you have BBC World, or other FTA channel, scanned in on a suitable satellite, you can use this to help align the dish, This will also tell you if the receiver is working.
You can us a site like dishpointer.com, for the general direction, the dish should be pointing.
Type in your friends postcode, select a satellite, like Thor 0.8W, zoom in on the map, moving the green icon, to where you have the dish located, then check the general direction.
The most, you should be out is 10-15 degrees, and aligned on a satellite, which ais receivable in the UK, so you can check the satellites/channels, you have tuned in, to check where the dish is pointing.
if the receiver doesn't scan in any channels, on your system, then you know it's either a receiver software, or hardware, fault.

Just noticed your profile states that you haven't got any system, at the moment, if the profile is accurate, then my post is somewhat moot:(

I spoke to a neighbor and asked if I could try the TM on his Sky dish. Oh no. What if it shorts out my dish he said. Ah well. Box is going back will keep you posted.

Not asking you to suck eggs but have you checked there is voltage coming out of the receiver to power the LNB ?

Does the meter have a loopthrough on it, if not have you tried running the meter on the loopthrough on the receiver to check if signal is getting through the tuner ?

Edit - just remembered the TM series had an energy saving mode that did more than just turn off the display, have you got it enabled ?
 
I thought about the voltage thing too but I would assume that if the el-cheapo meter was squealing, the power will have been coming from the receiver itself. It could be that it's sending out the wrong voltage, or set to wrong type/local oscillator.
 
Thanks for all the ideas. His replacement box is coming today and I will go round later. I am letting him set it up, just in case it is his connections etc that are causing the fault. If it works I will only have to help him fine tune the dish.
