First of all please accept my appologies, I don't install dishes as a profession but some friends asked me if I would do them a favour hence: I have purchased and erected a SKY J4 LS dish on the front of their house. Aimed it in the general direction that all the other dishes in the street are pointing and then, using a SLx satellite finder fine tuned it until I got the strongest signal, connected it to their new Samsung 40" F8000 which is recieving absolutley nothing, no signal at all. As I have a working system at home I took the dish back, tuned it up and plugged it in to my system, nothing again. What I'm uncertain about is the fact that the satellite finder is showing a good signal yet there is nothing at the reciever end. I would really appreciate some advice folks.
Thanks, Jed

Chances are you were correctly aligned - onto the wrong satellite!

This is a common problem and I bet there isnt anyone on the entire forum who hasnt done it at least once in the past :D

Chances are you had found 19E not 28E. There are half a dozen strong signals fairly close together you could have locked onto.

What he said.

9 degrees is indiscernable when using neighbouring dishes as a guide.

Happy holidays to you too Jed - you have donr the hard bit, which is finding ANYTHING.

Now you just need to get the exact satellite set up right.

If you can beg borrow or filch an old portable tv you could set up outside and watch what you are actually tuning in which is a great help for beginners. (Just makle sure no-one falls over any trailing cables....)
