Not receiving full complement of channels on Astra 19.2

My Satellite Setup
Fortec Star to Astra 19.2.

Evening, everybody.

I'm just looking for a bit of help in ironing out my reception of channels from Astra 19.2. I've set myself up with this to try and get a few German channels but I'm not having much luck - I'm receiving several channels (DSF, EinsExtra, Einsfestival to name a few and then a bunch of French ones) but not all of those that I know I should be getting (namely ProSieben, WDR, ZDF, Eurosport etc.).

There seems to be a lot of inconsistency between frequencies. For example, 10743MHz shows signal intensity at 90% and quality at ~60% while 11361MHz (and most other frequencies) is 45%/5%. Does anybody have any idea where the problem lies? I'm almost certain the satellite dish (Fortec Star 60cm) is pointed in the right direction. Is there likely to be a bad connection somewhere or might the LNB need adjusting?

I'm based in Doncaster if that's of any relevance (only just learned how to make fire here etc., etc. ;)).

Cheers for your help.

What receiver do you have? 11361 MHz is an MPEG DVB S2 HD transponder.

Yes cross check the S2 transponders with flysat to confirm if using a non Hd receiver.

Code:

Then you can forget the HD channels I'm afraid. Standard definition channels only.

When you say you don't receive most other frequencies, can you name a few (SD ones).

Hi , I know that I can't receive HD - hadn't realised that that frequency was HD and not SD. Anyway, the vast majority of frequencies I'm not receiving - I was receiving only about half a dozen frequencies: I've had a fiddle about this morning with the dish and now I can't even get the satellite any more (45%/8%). I've got a satellite signal strength meter that says the signal should be good. I checked to see if I was possibly pointing at 28.2 but the signal for that is even worse. Examples of frequencies not received: 12188 H, 12422 H, 12545 H (though I had 12480 V).

Cheers for your replies.

Ok, I see you have a Fortec Star Dish.

These often come with the FSUKVN LNB which has weird design in that zero skew occurs not when the f connector is pointing straight down, but at the four o'clock position!

So, bearing in mind you need a bit of clockwise skew anyway (clockwise when looking from LNB towards dish, that is), I suspect you might improve matters considerably by turning the LNB so that the F connector is a bit past four o'clock.

Hello again. I reterminated the LNB cable and I've found a bunch more channels which is great. Most are fine though some (e.g. Eurosport are pixelating. There are still frequencies that the signal quality is poor on - 12545MHz for instance - and won't pick anything up. I bought the dish and the LNB separately by the way.

But what LNB is it, exactly?

I'm using one from Maplins:

Anyway, with a little fiddling of that I've found everything. Appreciate your help :)

STOP posting the same stuff over and over again - the reason your posts are getting moderated is you are a new user. Posting multiple live links you are acting like a spammer so the forum software is putting your stuff into the moderation queue.

Ok, not an FSUKVN or the similarly afflicted Icecrypt, but there does appear to be a Skew diagram printed on it ......... can't quite make out the detail, but whether or not it has a normal outlet (F connector at bottom for zero skew) or a peculiar one, have you adjusted the skew to attain best results for both Polarities?

Edit: Just expanded it further in Picasa and it is "normal".

Question still remains though - you do need a few degrees of skew for optimum results.

Sorted, thank you. I did what you said and tweaked the LNB (a 20 quid option from Maplins). Thanks, appreciate the help.

Hello Tivù, i want to ask you something cause i can see that you have a lot of answers. I want to receive the Das Erste and the ZDF HD, on 11362 Astra, but i cant see even the transponder. Even if i add it manually i have so signal at all. I have try with two receivers , Kathreinn 922 and Humax. I have two LNBs with DiSeq

Thank you in advanced
Nikos

What size dish do you have? You say you have two LNBs, are you receiving two different satellites?
