OAS 440 Dish, Can it be motorized?

Got a OAS flat dish coming tomorrow.

I'm assuming that i can be motorised, but what exactly would the procedure be?

I've only ever installed a normal dish before, and couldn't get it to pick all the channels up, so had to get an installer.

Now i'm going to install this at ground level so i can have a tinker with it.

Any tips would be good.
 
Yep, should be easy to motorise. What motor have you bought?
 
Very possible but not the ideal dish to experiment on being only 48cm.

I know its not really idea, bought it to replace the eye sore of a dish i had before, plus i also live in a flat, but i'm going to position it at the bottom.

Is it a good idea to make it a static dish for a while then try motorised?
 
Always worth playing around with it first, you can then add a motor after. You will be limited of course due to dish size. Okay for strong sats, ie, hotbird, and the Astras etc.
 
Struggling to get this aligned, without a motor.

Elevation angle?

Azimuth?

Both?


Does it have an Elevation scale?

Is it akin to an Offset dish?
 
Elevation angle, yes it has a scale mate.

Apparently it needs to be pointed at the sat, its not offset?

So to get fairly accurate info about where to point it, click on the Site Link (top of this page) to the Dishpointer App.
 
Got the App mate, just not sure of the angle to point at compared to a normal dish.

Once i get the angle it should pretty much work...? :D
 
You still haven't told us which particular angle you're unsure about.
 
Well, if we take your word for it that the dish is not offset, then the angle is precisely the Elevation angle as told by Dishpointer.

Presumably somewhere around 25 deg?

(I haven't checked the precise value as you have already confirmed familiarity with the App.)

Gets 28.2 easily enough, is the dish too small?

Its 47.5cm
 
Possibly, but the new Hotbird birds are pretty potent in the UK, so even at your location I should have expected that careful alignment would bring results.
