OCTAGON SF8008 E2 4K UHD

Is there any consensus on which is the best version of the SF8008 to buy (single/twin/combo/mini)? Apart from the tuner setups the only differences I could find are the single has no wifi (at least from the images on Amazon), and the mini has only 4GB Flash eMMC, half the size of the others, does this make much practical difference?

Personally, I think the SF8008 4K Twin DVB-S2X tuner is the best option. If one of the tuners fails you have a backup with full functionality in the 2nd tuner for satellite. However some users may prefer the combo tuner.

Is it normal for an SF8008 to whine/whistle? Sometimes it stops before it finishes booting, other times it's there all the time.

edit: It coming from the box and not the power supply or through the TV speakers.
 
Never had that on my SF8008.
 
I had a noisy coil on my first, but by then it was dead, replaced under warranty, very quickly from the German supplier.

Assuming it has one, that sounds like a failing fan, or else the heatsink isn't properly attached to the CPU which is thus overheating and thus causing the fan to run at "over fullspeed" (I suspect the former).

Any idea what coil that was (my suspicion is as indicated above)?
 
I doubt it has a fan. It happens as soon as the rear power switch is turned on so no chance for anything to overheat,
 
I think it was one under the card slot, but as mentioned, the noise appeared after the receiver failed to start up one day.

I got the mini UHD version of the SF8008 this week, I’m pretty impressed with it.

I like that you get the multiboot with both Enigma2 and the Octagon/Edision LinuxOS (which I like using mainly).

The DVB-T2/C tuner is a nice touch, and it decodes the Freeview HD EPG out of the box on both OSes (the EPG for the HD channels is standard EIT but compressed, so without the right processing you just get garbled text for most programmes). It also orders the channels in the list by their Freeview channel number (LCN) on the Linux side.

I noticed an issue with Abertis (Spanish DTT on 30°W) in LinuxOS at first, where the higher bitrate encapsulated services would glitch, but a reboot seems to have fixed this.

Another key thing I’ve noticed is that the picture quality on the box is pretty good. It especially seems to do a very nice job of upscaling SD channels, even some of the grottier 544x576 blurryvision Freeview ones.
 
yes, i have recently fallen in love with my SF8008 - picture quality is brilliant, has a sensitive tuner, and can handle low symbol rate feeds - love the update procedure too when powering on and holding front button.
