The Octagon Sf8008 Supreme has AVL6261C demod chip. Edision OS MIO 4K receivers also have AVL6261C. This information is verified. Avalink advertises the symbol rates for AVL6261C to be 1000-60000. The SF8008 Supreme is an Edision 4K when it comes to satellite reception. I seriously doubt Octagon can do much to change the symbol rates on the Supreme.

Si2166D has 1000-45000 Skyworks | Product Details
but in reality it is better
Also, the input tuner (EDISION - AV2018, SF8008 - RDA5815M, SUPREME - ???) must be taken into account, not just the input demodulator

Octagon lists RDA5815m for the SF8008 and the SF8008 Supreme. Octagon also says the Supreme has a different tuner than the SF8008. So you can't believe anything Octagon says about the SF8008 Supreme.

The lowest usable symbol rate we have been able to get out of AVL6261C is around 500-600. I will be surprised if Octagon can match that symbol rate or get below it in the SF8008 Supreme.

Somebody needs to open the bonnet and take pictures then.

Opening the bonnet is not a problem. What would you like pictures of? Seeing the AVL6261C chip is easy enough. But I do not see an easy way to verify the tuner in the Supreme.

for the two x receivers so can only assume the newer 'SUPREME' is less sensitive tuner wise!

Again, welcome other dual receivers users results.
Just one note. For me Si2166 is only better in DVB-S and there no significant difference in DVB-S2 for some reason.

The driver for Si2166 does not support ShortFrameRate, whether it is already supported by the driver for AVL6261C is difficult to say, since no one has tried it. Everyone is only interested in lowSR, but not highSR with SFR anymore (although it is understandable since these transponders are intended for MPE or IP).

Who needs shortframerate support or where you can test? Low SR is commonly used, but where you need or can test high SR?

Silabs is better for weak DVB-S signals. AVL supports SNR under lock, but Silabs doesn't.

Only these two really matters for me. Blindscan works differently, not sure which is better or why..

It is of an older date, but essentially nothing has changed:
Si2166 (some it cannot even detect)
AVL6261
No receiver with Si2166 was able to handle the SFR tests conducted on HotBird in January 2023

33E at least 10727H works, snr is not great. But these are just data and not in TP list, I'm not going to start manually typing them all.

Only 11444Н and 12646H contains channels and these are fine.

I find blindscan in the SF8008 Supreme to be a bit unstable. My log files show over 600 blindscans since I have owned the Supreme, which would be a few months. Sometimes the blindscan hangs for no apparent reason, and this is why I say it is a bit unstable.

The blindscan plugin is nothing more than an interface for the blindscan binary file in /usr/bin of receiver files. It is possible to blindscan using the terminal and the proper blindscan command. The receiver has to be tuned to the correct band and polarization for command line blindscan to work. The blindscan command in terminal for me might look like this:
start_freq, end_freq, start_symbol-rate, stop_symbol-rate, pol, hilow[band], feid, NimSocket, is_c_band_scan, orbit

Note the orbit command in the blindscan. For some reason, the blindscan binary wants to look at your transponder list in satellites.xml. I have disabled this and point to a fake orbit in my satellites.xml (2100).

In terminal, I would enter this:
cd /usr/bin
octagon-blindscan 950 2125 1 60 1 0 0 2 0 2100

Then after a while, I would get a return of found transponders in the terminal screen.

You can change the command to .8 in the Supreme for the symbol rate start value, and the blindscan will return transponders down to 500 symbol rate.
octagon-blindscan 950 2125 .8 60 1 0 0 2 0 2100

The test above is not stable, and sometimes the blindscan will hang when the .8 symbol rate start value is used. But it does work. A video of this has been made and sent to Octagon. We will see if anything is done with it. But this test does demonstrate the Supreme can indeed find and log transponders down to a 500 symbol rate under the right conditions.

I find almost any transponder below 1000 symbol rate to be unstable. There is a 675 symbol rate transponder on 117w c band that has radio channels. Most of the time, this transponder works. But sometimes it doesn't. The 675 symbol rate transponder Does Not work at all after a blindscan until the receiver is rebooted. Another reason why I say unstable...

As mentioned above, these are not transponders intended for DTH, but it is possible to extract streams from them if you have suitable HW.

This afternoon tried the 'SUPREME' on 16.0ºe for low SR lock capability.

1.8m Marrafa PF Inverto LNBF C120.

Mainly to show that the 'SUPREME' locks SR below 500 ie: SNR .dB of 406 at the mo.
'SUPREME' shows a .dB weakness by comparison to the SF8008 4K (earlier version).
SF8008 4K also saw and locked 11053 H 366 whilst the 'SUPREME' did neither.

Sorry for the rush........things to do! :Y:-ohmy
