Passed north to south at around this time, and was bright enough round here to start the neighbours dog howling, so I looked out from the roof-hatch, and there it was

Any ideas ?
 
A couple of Aspirin should stop it happening again.
 
North to south cant be the ISS - no visible passes atm and its the wrong direction.

Nothing particularly bright listed on heavens-above for Tues or Wed mornings.
 
It was travelling about the same speed as the ISS but as you say, a north to south trajectory rules it out.

It was slightly brighter than the last few ISS passes, though being asleep before may have made it look so.

According to the records it can reach mag 1.7 on a good day (or night)
 
Did you notice in the East, how bright Jupiter is aswell, should be good viewing this winter.
 
The hole in the roof allows a view north to south at an elevation of around 45 degrees and upwards, without me having to get out of bed. If Jupiter was visible, I would probably close it to get some sleep
 
A bright satellite would never wake me up even if it was shining right into the bedroom window - I once slept through a faulty battery powered fire alarm going off right above the bed!
