Im totally new into the sattelite-tv world, but technical minded..
anyway

I want to change satellite on a system with a "Sea-tel coastal 30" gyro stabilized dish and dreambox DM 500-s
I have read the manual carefully, but don't understand what values I shoud to put in where.

The problem is that the yacht has moved out of range of the satellite, so I need to put in a new one. I dont have card for the dreambox, so any free good satellite chanels that covers Hong Kong up to Qingdao in China ?

This is what i need to put in:
1) Name of satellite
2) Position (e.g 105.5E)
3) Freqency i MHz. four digits, between 950 and 2150 MHz
4)Baud rate 10-30.000<br>5 FEC
6)Network ID (A Hex number of 4 digits)

After that i need to setup the dream box.. but that is another question:)

Any help will be appreciated

Check sites like lyngsat.com, kingofsat.net, and flysat, these will give you a list of satellites available, but you need to click on the beam link, to see if you can receive the transponders, in your area, with your dish.

Answers to parts 1 to 6:

1. Name of satellite, this will be the satellite you want to stay locked onto, (Chinasat, Telstar, JCSat???) we need to know the type of programming you want to watch.

2. Position, this is the satellites orbital position, it can be 0 East to 180 East, you enter the position of the satellite you want to watch.

3. Frequency, this is the IF frequency of the satellite channel you want to watch after down converting the transponder frequency to it's IF frequency.

Example: If the transponder is on Telstar 18 (138.0E) and is TP 12583, then you deduct the LO frequency of the LNB your using (lets say 11250) from that TP number to get your IF frequency. (TP 12583 - 11250 IF = 1333 MHz)

4. Baud rate would be the digital data rate of the data channels, (or Symbol Rate S/R) the one for the channel I was using is 43200.

5. FEC, FEC is the Forward Error Correction used on that channel. Example: FEC = 1/2, 3/4, 5/6 or some other FEC, this info is found on Lyngsat.com.

6. Network ID in HEX, this will be found on the channels information, it will be marked as VPID, it will be numbers, you will have to convert them to Hexadecimal format.

Now, setting up one of these things can be very very tricky, I would contact the manufacture and see if they have someone in your area to help do this for you, as if you get it wrong it will be pointing the wrong way and you wont get a thing.

Also this is a "Ku" band system only, you cant get the ChinaSats (you mentioned Hong Kong area) as they are all "C" band, you would need a bigger dish/system.
 
Ok, Thanks for the replys.. I have tried the settings now, but cant understand why I have to insert the network ID, as I thought that was a job for the Dreamboxes, so its possible to watch different channels on different tv's It seems not to be working with this setup:

Frequency in MHz TP=12530-11475= 1055MHz
Altfreq = 0000
Baud: 30000
FEC = auto
Network ID 235 conv hex = EB
