I have a car stereo receiver installed on my house boat, after a problem with the solar system (battery's were burned out due to the solar charger supplying an over voltage) I found the stereo didn't work, (could not turn it on) after an investigation I found the in-line fuse had blown, now here is the funny part...
How could the fuse blow if the radio is turned off and isolated with a main DC switch on the control console...?????.....Funny...... ?????
The only thing I can think of is a power surge coming in on the negative side, the DC power on the boat does not use a metal chassis type of ground, it has both plus and minus wires all the way back to the main battery pile, this voltage goes to the main control console, it has a switch on the positive side only, my thinking is that whatever the power surge was that fried the battery's came down the negative side. But how could it blow a fuse on the positive side?????
