My Satellite Setup
pentium 4 3.06ghz with ht, 1 gb ram, ss2, 1.15m motor dish, strong srtv50
My Location
Europe, Ukraine
ONE TV

EuroBird2 (28.5 E)

11662 V

27500

dish size: 1.15m location: Ukraine

skystar2, progdvb

In my area most signals are not that great- my averange signal strength is 25-70% with which everything is viewable. with oneTv I get like 25-30% which is enough for most channels - but with that and other channels in that beam I am getting a luck-based picture- sometimes quality is perfect, and sometimes I am getting a very messed up image, while at other times the signal jumps up and down and it's black. Other channels like mbc1-4, al jazeera english, etc and everything else is perfectly viewable.

I am using a motorized dish and have no experience in setting it up physically- I hired semi-professional help to install it. Is there a chance that minute dish adjustments will solve the problem? thanks in advance

Hi yuriythebest,

Have looked at two different beams and you should be able get these channels with your dish.
Some can pick it up with a 60cm in the west of the country, don't know where you are in the Ukraine.

Just one point Aljazeera is on 11680V, 27500, not 11662V, and there are other channels on 11662H.

Hope this is of some help, but beware of adjusting the dish if you don't know what you are doing as you might lose other channels.
But if you fancy your chances give it a go, Happy Christmas. :-fcm

Can I just point out that Eurobird 2 is at 25.8 East not 28.5E :-santa3

right- however the beam is still the same as badr2:
http://www.arabsat.com/default/fleet/inorbit/26degeast/2D.aspx

according to that in my location a 50cm dish should be enough- I have a 1.15 m dish

I've noticed that all channels from that beam and some others do not appear well (ie most of the time unviewable due to bad quality of signal) which is totally astounding since my signal strength is a stable 28% - and I watch many channels on other satellites without any problems of far worse signals (once even 15%:) but usually 20% is enough. Moving the dish with my remote does not help.

Well having looked at the link you gave I can only assume that Eurobird 2 is being renamed badr2 at some point in time

Yes but also the bigger the dish the more accurately aligned you need to be. Also you must remember that even in a good reception area you can have blind spots

Well obviously this type of information is difficult to interpret as I would not be able to receive anything watchable at 28% signal strength on my stb, what is your signal quality? Also is your lnb skew set correctly as this setting is commonly overlooked

thanks topper, to answer everything:
1.Yes, I think eurobird and badr should be looked upon as one

2.In that case I think it'll be best to get the people that installed my dish and ask them- it's probably either a blindspot or they can align it, dunno, I'l also ask about the skew setting. About the lnb skew setting- if everything else on all the other satellites is viewed as expected does it mean it's correctly set up or is it on a per-sat basis?

3. My skystar2 always shows identical signal strength/signal quality- I don't know why.

anyhow my conclusion is to talk to the people who installed the dish. thanks everyone.

She is on its 4th or 5th name. Its the old Hotbird 5. Also known as Eurobird 2, Badr 2 and Noorsat 1! :-rofl2
