only ITV, no signal

My Satellite Setup
Dish : Channel Master , aligned to 28.2E
LNB : Cambridge Industries GEO Universal G88
Receiver : HUMAX HB-1000S or Panasonic Sky Digibox
My Location
France Brittany
I have a panasonic Sky didibox which stopped receiving any channels except ITV, the signal strength and quality is ok. Since I bought a HUMAX HB-1000S when I do a channel search either freesat or non freeset it always finds nothing, but says : antenna signal is detected (LNB only).

When I check the signal it says Strength / Quality NO SIGNAL.

I think it may be a problem with the LNB being too old, the LNB is a Cambridge Industries GEO Universal G88.

Does anyone know if the G88 is compatible with the HUMAX HB-1000S ? or what might be the problem.

Hi Sandy and welcome to the forum. I think the problem you are having may well lie with LNB failure. The LNB you mentioned is very old (just how old someone else will no doubt tell us!!). Almost any LNB you can buy, either online or from your local brico should do, though the most favoured LNB used by members on here is the Inverto Black Ultra. I'd also check your connections both at the dish and into your receiver and the cable itself for water ingress. If you still have problems, get back to us.

What size Channel Master are you using? Here in Normandy I use a small oval dish for 28.2E.

Hello,

The thing is the LNB works with the panasonic Sky digibox (the signal strength and quality is ok), but only receives ITV. I have checked cables and alignment. I bought the LNB over ten years ago, can't remember the exact date.

The channel master is a Sky minidish (52x39cm) like I said this receives a signal with the panasonic Sky digibox.

I will look into the Inverto Black Ultra, but just wanted to understand the current problem before buying other equipment, as I may need a new dish as well as a LNB.
 
BTW I am in Brittany near Rennes
 
Its at least 10 years old from a quick bit of research and I concur its almost certainly some odd failure mode on the lnb.

If you can safely get to the dish its a pretty simple job to swap it. If you arent comfortable up ladders or its hard to get to then get an expert out.
 
If you're using a $ly minidish then there are specific LNBs made to fit the dish arm. There is no Inverto Black Ultra for these dishes but having said that just about any one that will fit will do the job.

I think the OP is using a Channel Master LOL....what size is yet to be determined....in the area around Rennes, you could probably use a zone 2 Sky dish..

Edit : just checked on the reply re the dish size...
 
Sounds as though you have lost Horizontal transponders due to either cable problem or lnb failure. Can you confirm which BBC One the Skybox is defaulting to on 101. I suspect it BBC One London and BBC Two England. If I am correct, you will lose BBC 1, 2, Channel 4 and Channel 5, but ITV ( London ) will still work. Try Channel 4 +1 and going to the 960 ish area check BBC One South and BBC2 NI to see if they work on the Skybox.
Most Freesat boxes need to see the Freesat data transponder to boot. As this is on 11426 Horizontal ( according to my Sagemcom Freesat box ) it will show no signal and refuse to scan, or will not scan correctly.
Assuming you do not have a satellite tester, or even a free to air receiver, to prove this, I would recommend changing the lnb and or cable to the receiver.
If you can run a temp cable from the dish to the receiver, i.e. through a window and you get the same problem it would suggest the lnb is failing.
( I had the exact same problem yesterday which was caused by cable degradation and replacing the faulty section resolved the problem )

Sorry for the delay bit busy, I have checked the signal with the Sky Digibox and have the following results :
101 : Default BBC 1 : BBC 1 London , no signal
103 : ITV London : ITV ok
135 : Channel 4 + 1 : ok
964 ! BBC 1 South : ok
953 : BBC NI : ok

So appears some channels are working and some not, so this would point to either LNB or cable failure ?

Probably you have the verticals but not the horizontals. A common lnb failure mode - especially if the power supply of the receiver isnt putting out quite as much oomph as it should be.
 
Pop the top off the digibox & have a look at the capacitors (cylindrical cans with a T or K embossed into the top) If the power supply is tired you may well find the tops of the cans are bulging slightly - they should be completely flat.

Keep yopur fingers well clear of the circuit board - some of the components hold enough charge even after being unplugged to give you a seriously bad day.
 
Although you may find the capacitors in your Digibox to be not perfect I don't think this is the root of the problem as the Humax also has a signal problem. Assuming the satellite dish is aligned properly I think it will be an LNB or cable problem.
