If you get not further than trapping card it means you do not have successful contact with the card. There could be a number of causes with the worst case being a faulty card.
We need a bit more information to guess the problem.
Are you using power supply or battery?
First attempt with Opos card?
Does the Elvis work with other cards? - which cards?
Do you get an ATR when you press Identify? what ATR?

Thanks Burnham - 1.Battery, prog came without power supply 2. First attempt with anything 3.The only other card I've tried was a goldcard (which apparently was a waste of time) 4.When you say identify I presume you mean autodetect? Just tried again but this time:no programmer found so - no card/EE found
It was a bit hit + miss before when I pressed mp set, but it did find it eventually.
The card is brand new, but I noticed it is slightly bowed, ie the outer edges curled up when looking from above with card in programmer, chip face down. I tried to straighten it but obviously I don't wanna apply too much pressure
I guess your gonna say use a power supply which is probably a good idea - will one of those multi-voltage ac adapters do the job?

Lets do this step by step. That's an expensive card to waste.
I would suggest a power supply, but let's see how far we get with the battery first.
You are doing the first step correctly - MultiProg v180 into MP set then into Phoenix. Look for the red light on the Elvis to confirm it's in Phoenix mode.
With OposLoaderTJ1965.exe you get three options along the bottom row, Identify, Erase & Program. Where do you see autodetect.

Burnham, I think the problem is the programmer - a missing chip on the DIL socket. I get a constant red light with the prog connected but the manual says it should come on briefly then go of. I did manage to load the files (not programme) a few days ago but every time I try now ; 'NO PROGRAMMER FOUND' Looked for the chip, but considering the size of it and the pig sty I inhabit my chances are slim. Mailed ad teknik about a replacement. Thanks, I will let tou know. mikk

Good luck, but are you sure your Elvis is faulty?
There isn't a chip in the Elvis that can fall out - the DIL socket is for programming eeproms and should be empty.
If you get 'NO PROGRAMMER FOUND' could be something else wrong.

AD got back to me today saying similar - that the dil socket is for programming chips so I dont need it for smart cards. The software must see the prog in some form as when I hit the power off button the box displays 'PROGRAMMER POWERED OFF' Also ran a piece of their software called MP_TEST and that didnt detect it either. Will try one last time before I send it back.

I fear that AD Teknik will say that your Elvis is in working order.
You get the 'PROGRAMMER POWERED OFF' message even if you unplug the RS232 lead from your PC - try it and see for yourself.

You were right, got back to me yesterday- they could not find anything wrong with it?????? Still no use to me if my set up cannot see the damn thing. The forums are full of people having trouble with this model! Ad say they I can 'trade it in' for usb elvis £30+ p+p & shipping. There would b no batterys or power supply to mess with, ... have u had experience of this model, is it easy to use ?

You might get a broader response if you put up a fresh post asking for specific opinions on the USB Elvis and any alternatives.

Ah the dreaded USB problem
Is your port powered on the PC ? Most early laptops do not automatically default to power sent from the port, this has to be activated (I did it on my laptop for a broadband modem, after about a year and was using a powered hub for no reason otherwise, but cannot recall how).
You HAVE to ensure that the PC or laptop is recognising the ELVIS is connected on the USB port, this means having nothing else running, no hubs, no modems no 5.1 sound processors.
Does the light come on when the power menu is activated, or is on when the ELVIS is connected ?
