Ive made this a thread for the none "Made In...." ultra local tv channels that are launching on 28E

STV Edinburgh is now on trade tests on 12640V 22000 5/6. Tagged as 55271.

Its currently fta but has the encryption flag set. Therefore its not viewable on Sky boxes but is on other receivers :D Its currently showing promos for the channel

Sky UK epg will be 117 (presumably in the Edinburgh Craigkelly transmitter area area only) and it will be encrypted to ftv level.

There probably wont be many more of these Ultra Local services in the near future - the next one big enough to possibly be on sat is well into the second half of next year.

Some moved from Europe to UK spot beams a few weeks ago which may have just been an internal reorganisation of muxes but maybe some will eventually go FTA unless the overspill into Ireland and Northern France/Benelux is still considered too great for rights reasons.

The rights issues are far tighter than just UK for much of the content - hence the encryption and EPG restriction to particular regions only. They allow FTV viewing throughout the UK because they correctly believe that very few of the population will bother to manually tune in on a Sky box. Due to these restrictions they arr able to pay a lot less for a lot of their content than the full UK rights fees.

Yeah, I figured that would be the most likely scenario. However, I was also thinking they might be able to do a similar thing if they went FTA on Freesat and only appearing on the EPG if the right postcode was used due to the majority of the UK only using Freesat or Sky boxes so there would be little interest from other users of generic boxes within the UK.

But being FTA would make it viewable in a large part of Western Europe - which when considering UK rights is neglible but I very much doubt it would be for "regional rights".

11671H is widebeam so any bought in programmes that show that have rights restrictions will have to be dropped if they go fta on that freq.

STV Edinburgh & STV Glasgow have now closed. They have both been replaced by the new STV2. STV2 has also launched as the local station for Ayr Aberdeen & Dundee - there will not be separate stations here. On satellite STV 2 is now carried on epg 117 in all Scottish regions except the Border Scotland area - my area!
