Pairing sky card

Only if you ring sky and get them to do it for you. The basic 6 pack will work on any box though - the card only needs pairing if you have movies / sport

The non-premium channels, so nearly everything except movies and sport.

Nice info rolfw. I got a new SKY box today and just inserted the card and it worked fine, I was very surprised! though I don't have movies or sports so I won't bother calling SKY. Does that mean the card can be used in my old HD box sometimes too (in spare room)?

Yep, should be fine. :) I normally do pair the cards, but a lot of my customers have more than the basic package.

Over the years I'd replaced my Sky boxes and never bothered to pair them as we didn't have any premium channels. It was only during the card swap a few months ago that I had to pair them as the new white cards needed to be activated in the "proper" box.

I recorded NatGeo+1 earlier and when I went to play it back it said recording interupted....please wait...., nothing happened other than this message so I deleted it. This recording was set to be recorded, it said recorded 63 mins so it must have started to record! I have tested recording something manually at it seems to be fine, could this be something to do with the pairing? or just a dodgy recording? I did change channel a couple of times though! and both feeds are working, though the signal ain't great today!

If in doubt, pair it. :)

I still have prgrams on the old box, if I pair the card with the new box will I loose playback on the old box?

Not sure to be honest, will depend on whether they are premium channels. :)

Just normal stuff like discovery and Five etc! The other half won't be happy if I loose her Home & Away :)

LOL, no, best to be safe. :)

I thought I would let you know that another recording failed with this error 'recording interrupted please wait' I called SKY and paired the card with the box and the recordings now work. SKY are sooo sneaky! :)

I understand that a card with Sky+ functions will record and playback any FTA channel if used in any sky+ box.
If used in a box that the card is NOT paired to it will record the "subscription" channels, but to view them the card must be paired - if not then you get the "recording interrupted message".
