Re: DMR-ES20D recording problem.

I bought a pack of 100 Tuff Discs for general recording on Panasonic DMR-ES20D dvd recorder.

I recorded Zambia v Ivory Coast CAF football final match and noticed 114 minutes into the match that all was well. However, when the match ended, a message appeared saying "there was an error".

The result was no recorded program and inability to finalise the disc so other recorded matches cannot be viewed. The unit has inbuilt freeview.

This has happened on a few occasions using the same discs.

Has anyone any knowledge of the cause of this?
Is the recorder at fault or the discs?

Both, I imagine. Fickle business, ensuring compatibility in practice.

But I found that where certain discs didn't seem reliable in my DVD Recorder, if I made sure to Format them again immediately prior to use this somehow eliminated the problem.

Of the three Amazon reviews two said that the Tuff discs were useless. That's probably your guide right there.

Thank you for your replies.
I will buy differrent types from now on.
Unfortunately the DVD recorder being used does not have formetting facilities, not that I can find anywhere in the menu's at any rate.

It's very unlikely that you'd need to format for recording on +R or -R discs, and you'd only need to format rewriteable disc if doing certain types of editing in VR mode. Most of the time for straight recording the machine will format as the recording is made.
