Hi, I need some advice on the following.

Many years ago during a very cold spell I had to have a LNB replaced, I was informed by the engineer to leave the SKY set-top box on standby during the night so that power is still supplied to the LNB so as to stop it freezing.

Yesterday we had a Panasonic Freesat 37" LCD installed, what should I do at night, leave on the mains power and switch off the TV, or do I have to leave the TV on standby?

In UK prevailing weather conditions, there should be no need to trace heat an LNB in this way.

The failure you had may, or may not, have been due to extreme cold, but even if it could be proved that it was, it is not a failure you are likely to experience again.

If you are otherwise inclined to switch off and unplug, then do so.

The embodied Freesat Receiver may take a short while to fully populate its EPG when next powered up, but I find that a minor irritation.

You could leave the TV on Standby if the latter issue troubles you, but it really isn't necessary as far as maintaining LNB reliability!

Don't really like leaving TV's on standby, so I can carry on as before and switch it off at the mains.:)
 
Likewise - but not for safety reasons.

I'm just a Yorkshireman with a keen eye on my elastictrickery bill :-hide
