In the past six weeks I've had just as many payments by cheque as by direct bank transfer. In the past year I can only recall two that I had to deposit at the bank.

So, is it coming back as a regular thing, or are people simply using up those remaining in their chequebooks ?
 
I've not seen my chequebook in years, I know it's in a box, but I've not needed to use it for so long that it is redundant as far as I'm concerned... :)

With the advent of same-day transfers, paper cheques are a slow and rather unnecessary thing, the only advantage to them is being able to stop them before payment is taken just incase of a problem...
 
In my last place of full time employment we stopped taking cheques in 2004 as in 2005, the other main reason to stop at the time for our company which had cheque flipper receipt printers was the massive amount of fraud taking place with cheques and bankers cheque guarantee cards at that time. The banks were supposed to stop taking them by 2008 however this ruling was then put on permanent hold when the banks realized just how big an issue it would be to stop completely. A new deadline was set for 2018 so be careful it may be that your bank will not process them shortly.

I still use cash, never been a fan of kites or plastic, gimme smelly green folding anyday.

That is all very well however this area is currently flooded with fake £20.00 notes and the producers are desperate to get rid of them before the new polymer one is introduced in 2020, A friend of mine yesterday posted this on FB, a whole wad of them paid by someone for an X box, every single one of them was a fake. Name and shame I say

The facebook accounts suggest they know each other from university.

Anyhow one of the cheques paid in on Monday has apparently cleared already, so is the 'four working days' rule no longer the case ?
 
I posted a cheque in November last year (to a luddite friend) and it still hasn't arrived.

Presumed lost, I did actually persuade the intended recipient to get with the programme and accept a transfer by Faster Payments.
 
i still use cheques, usually to pay money from currant account to various others, i stand behind people in the bank, complaing they cant access their account on line, the apps not working, wheres my money gone ?, ive forgotton my pin. then i regularily see on the news one bank or the other not allowing customers to access their money because of system upgrades ! i think it might be a while before i join the herd:-rofl2
 
I still use cheques for a couple of local traders .. My milk - supply / delivery man .. And my account at the nearby builders merchant ... otherwise i use cash locally ...
Credit card or Paypal for all goods bought online ... which is quite a lot these days :)
 
SWMBO's grandparents still give her cheques for birthdays etc. She scans them in on her bank's phone app - no need to take them to post office or banks any more.

No that is the thieving scallywag that has multiple facebook accounts to cover his misdemeanours

I am not going to ask how that possibly works because even our cheque flipping printers use to read the ferrite ink numbers printed on the cheque to verfy it was an authentic cheque
 
Not seen a cheque in ages. In sweden we pay by card soon money will be gone.
This is crazy but good for the taxman, they can follow the money.
 
I probably take four or five cheques a year, the rest is Fastpay, cash or Paypal Here card machine.
