Guys,

I have a TM500 running the latest UR image which is working great apart from one annoying issue with the streaming to my PC (which I use all the time to watch TV in the home office).

I have got it configured to stream using VLC which launches correctly from the web interface. The problem is that after a period of viewing the stream starts to stutter and hang. This gets progressively worse until it becomes unwatchable. It usually takes between 5-20 mins to start and is almost always unwatchable after 30 mins. It is simply fixed by clicking on the VLC button in the web interface (ie resending the stream request) but it is annoying and any help in eliminating the issue would be great.

Some additional info which may be of use is that I am connecting using a wired network via a 1gb Dell switch. I use other streaming services on the same connection (ie movies from NAS to media centers / PC etc) with no problems at all.

Thanks,

Xav

Thanks! Have downgraded to 1.01 and will report back in a few days if that fixes the problem.

Thanks for the reminder. I have actually managed to sort it out, but I wasn't able to completely nail down the cause. The older version of VLC did help in that I could watch for longer before any issues arose and the issues (glitches and breakups) were less severe but they were still there. At the weekend, I rebuilt my PC (I was originally using Windows 7 RC, and have moved to Windows 7 final). Since the rebuild, it has been perfect and I watched a complete football game this weekend with no memorable issues at all.

Did you settle on a vlc version for W7 as I, like you, moved from W7rc to full ?

I'm using 1.0.5 and have found it excellent on FTA but have had a few probs with freezing after a while with crypted cahnnels.

I am using 1.01 goldeneye right now and I am reasonably happy with it. After a great start I've noticed that the freezing is starting to creep back when I do certain things (like play FM2010) so I think its a conflict of some kind. I've loaded a bunch of apps and always multi-task as I have dual monitors and use one for streaming whilst either playing or browsing in the other so I haven't nailed the cause yet but when it was a clean build that version of VLC worked fine.

I've guinea pigging for another OP in a different forum, experimenting with sreaming on the tm600 using a Zapsteam addon and a modified config file to vlc, with some interesting results. One of which maintains the stream when you change channel, either by remote or webui. No need to re-start for a new stream. At the moment it works very well on FTA, but when using CCcam and W7 can be be a bit erratic, not freezing while watching but when changing channel after watching for a while. W7 seems to hold onto the "vlc process" and has to be forced to quit before it can be restarted.

Another, which more out of curiosity for me, happened by accident today, when I found myself watching 2 different channels (same TP) one on the stream and the other on the TV. Both channels were FTA and had perfect sound and picture quality.

So was wondering if anyone on here had an understanding of how this happened?

Regards csb

I think the two channels thing is actually a standard feature in Enigma based boxes. Basically, these boxes can show two streams on the same TP (or you can watch one and record another). Whilst it is nice, it's usually not too useful as you are limited to the same TP so the times you will want to watch two things being broadcast on the TP are likely to be relatively rare (which is why people often want dual tuners).

Need to reflash tonight but once that is done I will have a play with the zapstream piece (found the other forum, so will report any issues there once I get it done).

Thanks for the reply, sheds some light on a screenshot I saw of an Enigma2 box recording 4 channels at the same time. Possibly the Vu Duo+

Yes, could be the VU Duo but equally could have been the DM8000 which ships with 2 tuners but can have another couple added to allow any 4 channels to be viewed / recorded etc.

Hi xavk,

I will try and dig out the screenshot, its out there.

I must admit, you have got my newbie grey stuff moving here, primarily about how to repeat the situation I had yesterday, not the "2x Football x 10 beers", but what was happenning on my stb. Also, try as I can, any "Enigma info" seems to be related to specific images, and never heard mention of two streams from a single tuner(TP).

Try this for some examples of two channels on a single box. No idea how you managed it on a TM500 though as they dont have recording facilities.....

Hi m8, thanks will have a look.

TM600 "My System", with Zapstream plug-in, UR2.0.23 / 20-01-10

Wasn't recording, just watching(FTA 28.2) on both TV and PC-vlc at the same time. Then messed with stb-remote, (possibly pressed record, or some other button). Then channel changed after Rangers game, for a while before noticing difference on PC. Then moved back to 1w and had similar situation, with PC-stream showing a channel and sometimes TV blank....etc. Rebooted and back to normall.

As said before this happenned by accident when trying out vlc-zapstream.

cheers csb

not sure why this happened with zapstream guess it missed channle change, but it can be done easily with "streamts" that's in UR webui, e.g

-Zap to "DanceNationTV"
-open webui and click VLC button, then save video.m3u don't start it yet
-Zap to Flava "or any other chan on same transponder as first"
-open video.m3u in vlc

just did exactly that and had one channel on box and different one in vlc.

that's on my TM600 should be same on TM500, can't seem to record and watch channel on same transponder with UR/TM600 at the moment though.
