We had one when I was young in the '40s. Ours were two birds 'drinking' from one receptacle, each alternately dipping. Glass tubes moulded in the shape of birds, pivoted in the middle. The bottom of the glass was a bulb filled with a liquid which expanded due to the ambient temperature (usually on a windowsill), and travelled up the tube causing the bird's head at the top to drop down.
Somehow they dropped back again after a while and repeated the excercise, but can't remember exactly how.
Not perpetual motion, just heating and cooling.

I remember Homer Simpson used one in an episode where he was too lazy to press a key that needed to be used regularly on his PC, so the bird did the job.

Hmmm...automation. Somehow it reminds me of her indoors. I see they now do robots.

Not perpetual, but could 'generate' 1/20000 of a Watt if tied to an efficient coil/magnet system, so all that is required is 100 million or so of these perched on the shores and on pontoons around Lake Windermere.

Certainly it felt like it would never end..
