Philex 28212R Alignment problems

Interesting - I'm glad you got it working.

But the fact that you couldn't quite depress the dish enough when mounting where it was suggests that you might be suffering from the not uncommon problem of the dish bracket being assembled upside down.

Many dishes have a reversible bracket so that the limited movement possible can be shifted to a different range depending upon the user's latitude.

ie Those who are very south need high elevation angles, but those very north need low elevation angles.

Anticipating your likely response when you see my last Post:

Even though you haven't reassembled the dish bracket, you have moved it from one mount to another.

And as you were getting some Channels before, the elevation error would have been no more than half a degree - a discrepancy which could easily be counteracted by the garden mount being slighlty less (or more!) vertical than the wall mount.

funny you should mention this, as initially when putting the dish together i did nearly assemble it upside down.
However i noticed the bracket is not symmetrical (reversible), there is a small metal hanger jutting out from the top end which allows the dish to hang on the top of the wall bracket so it doesn't slip down the pole whilst aligning it.

Can you post up some pics?

Just for interest.

Can do no problem but will be tomorrow when i've some day light.

Still though, I'm just thinking, when i moved the dish to the back garden at ground level. All pre programmed setting worked perfectly.
On the astra28.2 setting I managed to get 90% on both signal and quality, and it varied as i would have expected as i moved away from the satellite.

When i had it mounted on the wall, the astra28.2 setting had a constant 54% signal reading that didn't vary regardless of where i pointed it, with only sporadic variation in quality strength.
Now that i have moved it and confirmed that the lists on the box are up to date, this disproves my earlier thought that it was the programmed transponder settings that were to blame for the poor quality strength.

Does this mean i might still have a problem with interference or something at my desired mounting location, there is a phone cable running maybe 4meters in front of the dish, it is not directly in the line of the inbound signal, but could something like that be to blame for the strange readings i have been getting.

I have not had time to move the dish back again yet, it remains at ground level in the garden for the time being.

Can't imagine the phone cable having any significant effect - my motorised dish shoots through a mass of cables, at least two of which are right in front of it and I have to avoid throttling myself on when doing maintenance.

oh thats great i just got an bad feeling when i thought about it that there might be something else interfering with it, where i have mounted it on the wall has a much better sheltered view than the temporary set up in the back garden.

As you say if i could only have been half a degree off or so if i was receiving some channels perfectly.

If i was only this far off surely the quality % should have been above 0 when it was on the wall, why do i get the feeling i might find i have not solved the issue when i go out again tomorrow!

I also feel there is something here we haven't twigged.

Bearing in mind the true look angle is around 25 deg or so, is the line of site (other than the phone cable) actually clear from the wall-mount position?

Photos .................

Sorry didn't have much time for it today and its nearly dark now so photos might be a bit dark but you should get the idea.
Above is the view from behind the satellite in the direction of 28.2, from the wall mount.
The mentioned cable is just in view in the top left corner.

The above view shows the line of direction the possible problem cable is taking. Crossing the front of the dish a few meters above.

As an experiment this evening i moved the temporary pole i had set up from the back garden to almost directly below where i wish to mount the dish on the wall. The small pole to the left of the ladder marks the spot.
I managed 75% + quality on the astra28.2 setting in this location and perfect pictures and sound, so surely this means that 2mtrs above this position i should have even better signal.
But again when i placed the dash back on the wall mount, i am back to constant 54% signal strength regardless of where i point it and only flashes of quality strength.

the nearest phone mast is over 2 km away.
I have turned off my wifi hub to see if that makes any difference, and it makes no change,
Where i live is quite rural and i cannot pick up any other wifi signals bar my own, so it cannot be a neighbours.

I am pretty sure something is interfering with it, and the cable is the only thing i can see. But if its not something that usually would cause interference i need other suggestions i think.

What make is that LNb?

To my eye, when the dish is back on your wall mount it seems to be pointing down too far. Am I right in thinking that you can't elevate the dish because of a restriction on the dish adjustment? Of so, I'd be looking at the 'plumbness' of the wall mount. Don't forget the weight of the dish will make it dip down, unless there's a further wall brace we can't see from the photos.

no the dish is free to move up a further 90deg if i need to. the problem is no matter where i point it at this location on the wall mount, It reads 54% signal strength 0% quality
be it Straight up or at any increment down to the current slightly depressed position ( where i am receiving some of the astra28.2 group channels )

That phone cable is not a problem at all.

Can you do some more pics tomorrow, to include a view along the direction the dish is pointing (check for real line-of-sight issues) and some close ups of the rear of the dish include mounting bracket, dish bracket etc.

if the position almost directly below the wall mounted position, allowed me to get quite good signal then there is not an issue with the line of sight.
I can assure you that there is nothing in the line of sight other than sky and the cable.
Could cables inside the wall be causing interference?

Your Post #20 didn't say the garden mount was directly below but, as it turns out that it was, then los shouldn't, as you say, be the issue.

But something clearly is amiss, so the more information we can get the better - both words and pictures.

I suspect this is one of those cases where it is what we don't know that will lead to the correct diagnosis and remedy - the sort of thing that would probably be easily found during a site visit (which we can't do!).

Forgot to put this one up earlier, as you can see the wall mount is getting sick of me going back and over! Lol
I really dont think the answer is with this bracket though guys.

As for interference, the most common effects are from DECT phones breaching Satellite cable/wallplate immunity and even then tends only to affect a couple of Transponders.

anyway, i have ordered a quad lnb and a different receiver for one of the other rooms.
If the new lnb and receiver do not show any improvements, then i will give in to what ever is causing the interference and move the dish to the less sheltered side of the house.
Pity cause the winds here in the west of ireland can be harsh enough at times.

I am not going near the bloody thing again until the new gear comes, it has wasted enough of my time already.

Just to re iterate again though i really appreciate being able to come on here and discuss it with ye.

As stated, unlikely to be interference as far more than two Transponders are absent.

Unless, of course, you are using non-Satellite grade cable?

What exact type of cable are you using?
