Philex 28212R Alignment problems

Is it possible that when the dish is up high, the weight of the cable is affecting the connection?
 
its the stuff philex sent with the box, on the box it says its high quality satellite cable.
On the actual cable itself it reads RG6U 75 Ω

Yes i suppose it is possible, however i doubt it. I have made sure the connector is well connected each time. It is not in anyways loose.
If this connection was at fault then i imagine the signal strength would be fluctuating when i move the dish from side to side.
This is not the case, there is a solid signal strength of 52-54% apparently to the astra28.2 group regardless of where i point the dish in the 170deg range i can turn the dish.
On top of this, as previously stated i can receive pretty much all of astra19.2 channels from this position, with cable weight hanging on the connection.:confused:
 
Yes but that 50 odd% is merely the quiescent value you get from noise and it really proves only that an LNB is connected and powered up.

The Strength reading only becomes of value when you get that marked upswing as you near proper alignment to a Satellite - at which point the Quality reading becomes the key.
 
as you said before, given that i am receiving all qvc channels, most of the sky promotional channels, sky news, several xxx, some bbc streaming channels. With perfect picture, i must be very close to proper alignment of the satellite, yet the receiver is still telling me i have 54% and 0% quality.

I know the receiver works and the lists are up to date because when reading from the back garden or at ground level in front of where the wall mount position is, I can gain 90% quality with 90% signal.
 
It is a mystery - defying all the usual faults/errors.

Soooooo, let's go left-field back to your interference theory: It may be worth investing a few minutes going around the house turning off as much electronic kit as you can find. All of it. If the problem remains, it isn't interference. If it all bursts into life, simply turn stuff back on one item at a time until you find the culprit.

I personally don't think it is interference, but it does no harm to experiment.


And, finally, several of us have mentioned LNB skew: Have you tried altering it? Some LNBs are not "standard" in that F connector at bottom dead -centre does not equate to zero skew.
 
While you're up adjusting the LNB skew it may be worthwhile taking a couple of photos of the rear of the dish where it mounts onto the pole and of the wall mount relative to the wall and post them on here. In all probability it will be ok, but it's possible we can spot something you've missed.
 
New quad LNB arrived this morning, £4.50 from amazon.

After i switched the LNB i had instant success. Quality and strength showed up and over 80%

My second combo box arrived today also and now have full connection to astra2 in both rooms.

It still doesn't solve the mystery completely as the other LNB works in certain locations.... a bit weird but i'm happy enough with how things went today so all good.

Down the road i might try add 19.2E with the old LNB given that it never had a problem picking that one up.

Thanks again all, in the end I am pretty confident problems had nothing to do with interference but a tempermental LNB.
 
Excelent - thanks for letting us know. Now throw the old lnb in the bin - if you stick it in the spares box it will come out and flummox you at some point in the future!
 
Well I'm really pleased you got it working - sounds like the cable drag issue someone mentioned could have had legs ....... if the intermittent nature of the fault arose from a dodgy F socket.

We may never know - unless you fancy dismantling the old LNB: That's always fun and instructive (as well as destructive!)
 
Pleased to hear you got it sorted. I wouldn't hang onto the old LNB though, throw it out as AS suggests.
