Phone scams

Decided this topic now needs a thread of it's own, bearing in mind I have BT call protect, I have just been telephoned and upon answering was greeted with a recorded automated voice telling me my internet line had been compromised and I should press one to speak to someone or two to speak to BT. Needless to say I blocked the 'local' number immediately. I am 99% sure that I would have been billed thousands if I had selected either one or two

My wife had a call on her mobile this morning from a company offering to take up the extended warranty on our washing machine. I explained that we don't have a warranty at the moment and they said, no, they're offering an extension to the standard warranty that comes with the machine. I explained that I couldn't see how they could offer an extension to the warranty when our machine has been without a warranty fir the six or seven years it's been in our house.

He then said he would remove our number from their list. Imust have been in a good mood to let the call proceed for that long.

Sounds a bit like those people who used to do the same w.r.t. Sky boxes - you can guess what sort of response they got here!
