Hi friends ..
Can one of you TM5402 owners do me a big favour ..
Pop the lid off your box (5 screws) and take a photo of the inside specifically around the area where the front display panel (user buttons pcb) connects to the mainb board by a 14 way ribbon cable ..?
I have one on my bench for repair ..the red stby right is continually flashing and nothing lights up on the green alpha display..
I've examined the ribbon itself and this looks damaged ...and I also suspect its orientation is incorrect ..
Thus I suspect someone has been inside the box and attempted a bodge repair of some kind.
There may well be damaged components as a result ..but need this photo to support my theory ..

Very much appreciated ..cheers buddy

Orientation of the ribbon is correct ..but the creasing and damage a the edge looks suspicious ..
Maybe has been connected with wrong orientation at some point ..
So I suspect either the alpha display driver chip has gone faulty ..or worse ..the cpu has suffered damage.
Not looking good for this one atm.

I had a flashing light on my TM not long ago.The diode arrowed was open circuit.
Ill check this tomorrow mate ..but I suspect it is ok ..
There are supplies present on all 4 of those big diodes.
This does look like a main board issue to me..
I did manage to force a firmware update from the usb socket ..but slow responses from the remote ..and the user chanel up down bottons on the TMs front panel non functional ..plus the lack of Alpha display have me wondering about the main cpu.
We shall see...

....So I didn't wait till tomorrow ..
Close inspection of the psu in my F15 shows it to be pin compatible ..thus I borrowed it and fitted in the TM ..
No change proving the psu is not the fault..
Still suspecting the main board ..but just a chance it is the front control panel which carries the display..
If this is pin compatible I can eliminate this too by borrowing the F15s.

Sadly not possible to borrow the F15s front panel ...it having a 16 connection ribbon ..unlike the TM which has only 14..
cest la vie.

Well I guess this one will go for scrap..
Can't even get at the menus ..
The buttons on the front remain unresponsive after start up ..
Can use the stby button to force a firmware change and thats it..
Remote control is sluggish amd produces the wrong responses from the 5402...
Now totally conviced eith a major corruption has taken place ..which can't be fixed with a firmware flash..
or the cpu is damaged ..
or the cpu is running at the wrong speed ..this might also account for the odd remote control responses.

In short I suspect nothing will easily fix this box ...other than main board replacement..
Oh well..ya can't win em all..

A google brings up a blown cap on the power board/diode on power modul VS.
As I've already said Martin ..
Borrowed the psu from my F15 ..same supplies same pinouts on the connector as the TM..
No change ..no fix ..same problems ..
So not the power board in this case.
Main boards rarely repairable at component level ..and certainly not without a schematic ..which isn't in the public domain and never likely to be ..
We live in a throw away world sadly
