dear admin,
i think we should have a picture gallery (no not like the one we have where some-one stick a piccy in, and then the next 10 replies are congratulating them on their piccy) what i mean is as a reference guide, for instance
thor is the usual culprit for setting up motorised dishes in each piccy (pref side view you can state details of location, dish, motor and where it's pointing, and nothing more, no comment's nothing
that way when ever people are setting there dish up (remember my first attempt looking at thor (see piccy):-DOH! they would have a decent guide as to how it should look
your sincerely
bronking

I agree that pictures are a good guide, we have something underway. :)

i dissagree.... my thor, rolfs thor and your thor will all look different?

in relation to the house wall anyway... everyones house is positioned different.

or am i missing something?

for instance your picture looks different to mine at the same sat

Yes you are of course right, but a general pictorial guide will be a help, we cannot of course post a one size fits all picture of what your dish looks like when pointing at thor, but can perhaps indicate what an offset dish at 30 degrees elevation might look like. :)

I think he was getting at the motor type and the elevation for that, also an offset antenna in the north of England and what that looks like or should do.
Could be wrong though.

L.:)

so its the loft on the dish that your after... i see :)

no, no, no, no,no (just logged on checking on another thread.....after playing darts and drinking....anyway.............

how big/small do you think this world is (think global)
i would think that for instance (and maybe we could paste pictures in this thread/post to see) that my dish pionting at thor, red's dish pointing at thor, lancelot's dish pointing at thor, rolf's, or anybody's pointing at thor within a certain distance/location will look similar. angle/elavation whatever u want to call it (unless your pole setup is a mile high or you change dish direction manually using deep sea diver gear
remember i'm only asking about guidence not something written in stone

back from the pub:
1 does this make any sence (i'll check to morrow and edit)
2 br gentle with your comment's its took me 1/2 hour to type this
3 opposion didn't turn up so we won 8-0 and hab a ko i got beat in semi out of 16 play
4 we won the round the board league mon and are in all/3 finals os cup comps:-DOH! :-DOH!
ignore 3 and 4
alert hyjack thread
update on 2.... 3/4 hour

ps if i post an offending thread later i'm sorry but i'm sure (hope) admin/mod's will keep an eye out

OK no probs... tomorrow i will take a pic of my dish at 1w

difficult to get a side on pic though...Ummm ill try

all righty then :)

here is my dish at 1w
with the bottom of my sky dish peeping into view :)

Another nice day, in the North of England lol

lancelot you crack me up at times:D

look familiar?

no, yours is clear and mine is blurred :)

the truth is, that its hard to see exactly because of the tilt in camera etc etc

but unless we all had the same dish, all i think this would do, is confuse a person trying to align there dish....thats all im saying

   :-rofl2 :-rofl2 :-rofl2 :-rofl2

red you really do need to go to specsavers

your comparing my first attempt (which atually proves my point)

the reason yours was blurred was when you uploaded attachment it was toooo big for a snap shot so i used you thumb print
:D

at the top of this thread, is that dish pointing to 1w

ignore that... just read your post again :)

i take it that position never worked :D

when i first set it up (ie first attempt as in newbie) i thought it was and couldn't understand why i couldn't get a signal (i had no pictures to compare it to), the one that i showed against yours is pointing at thor

I reckon it was pure co-incidence that both Bronkings and Red-Devils pics lined-up.

A compare gallery sounds interesting though, but, would still need some 'hard' reference points.

Like maybe the picture is taken as plumb as possible (including a vertical wall or pole) in addition to the obvious: where's it pointing, your location, dish make, size......

I think I understand Bronkings point. When I first tried to get my SKY minidish working here in Berlin I had been pointing at the sky for weeks as if it were a dinner platter - I had no understanding of what to do. The elevation was so high, I was probably looking toward the north pole for BBC1, lol.:o

I believe Analoguesat put me right on that;) Pics are a good start point when you haven't a clue about the technic.

Have Fun,

Mark.

i take your point bronking...
see, even as a complete newbie, i new that it was very hit and miss to lock on to a satellite.... so i was ready for a difficult job.

but i know what you mean, some newbies might think its like pointing a TV arial in the general direction and bingo.... thats were the problem lies.

so for these type of newbies... a few pictures and a few tips ie dont expect to be up and running in 5 minutes.... its like lining up 2 laser pointers 10 miles apart lol
should put them on track...... for depression :D

found another at thor:D

Mine at Thor, 52*north & 1*east.

Bu**er pic did not load, I'll be back.

Trying again.
