Was just on their site there (I know, scrubbed my hands with Ajax and scouring pad afterwards) and for the life of me I can't see any way of subbing without taking one of their shitty Q boxes. So have they dropped the "old" HD boxes?

Installs of HD+ boxes are still available (although not widely publicised) for those who cannot have Sky Q installed for various reasons. New 500 GB boxes are still being installed although production of the 2TB box stopped some time ago and stocks of new ones at Sky have been exhausted

I cannot believe their pricing structure now, and the Q shit.... Sorry kit being "loaned" is a guarantee that people like myself will never sub again.

Sky Q is extremely gimmicky - and expensive - my tastes. I never watch it on anything other than the downstairs telly, so what's the point of it for me?

Plentiful supply of normal ones on your favourite auction site.

$ly want to lock you in to their Q system, with its incompatible LNB, to stop former subscribers easily switching to Freesat.

Q is nightmare, my sister has it, nothing but trouble, freezing etc and the little satellite box they give you loses connection with the main box and needs re-booting all the time. For what you pay, p*ss poor!

Hardly progress, eh? The only time my Sky HD box form 2010 reboots is when it does a software update.

A little less analogue, and a lot more crap.

This ^, and that the dish is unable to be adjusted to receive from other positions.

I thought the main point of SkyQ was to introduce 4K TV to the masses , not kill the subscriber database off.

To be fair, there is a hybrid LNB available on demand for those who wish to maintain existing feeds to Freesat and other Receivers.

Does Sky Q work with 'normal' LNBs at all? Via a 'secret' menu perhaps?

Sky is becoming like Apple - needing additional hardware to support what was included in previous generation one. With Apple, they removed 3.5mm phone socket on eyePhones which means the need for a dongle to charge and listen at the same time.... among others.

The latest Sky HD boxes also don't have RF out for millions of Magic Eyes already in place... needing additional dongles.

Mind boggles.

The RF output was replaced with a built in WiFi. IMHO a far more useful option. Replacing one dongle with a different one - external WiFi bridge with external I/O box.
